I hate this day and age of recruiting or else I’d have called both to LSU months ago. LSU is probably considered to be second in these races by most national media to Oregon with Geralds and to Auburn with Matthews.

However, I am under the impression from a strong source LSU is still very much in it for both. Even went as far as saying we feel like we are going to land both.

We will see how this holds up but I think even 1/2 would be great.

Deuce Geralds

Jase Matthews

If I had to take only one, give me Geralds. This is no knock on Matthews, he would be a great get for LSU.
It just seems like in recent years that the need at defensive tackle for LSU has been greater than the need at receiver. LSU is a wide receiver factory for the NFL now and maybe that’s why so many receivers want to come to LSU.

Getting Lamar and Geralds in the same class could be a game changer for LSU’s defense in a couple of years. Lamar and Geralds have elite athleticism for playing inside. Quarterbacks hate inside pressure.

I’m hoping for both. Getting Matthews would be great, I’m really happy to learn Geralds is in play. Big boys with quick feet are hard to come by. If I had to choose among a great safety, great corner, great lb, great de or a great dt, all things being equal, give me a tackle who can stop the run or rush the qb with equal skill.

Shea said today on Moscona that Oregon is the favorite for Geralds, but LSU is still in the picture.

The crazy thing is you forgot to mention Richard Anderson, who is like the second ranked DL in the entire country. And Lamar will actually be playing Defensive end, not inside. So it would be Geralds (if we land him) and Anderson in the middle, with Lamar and Henderson on the edges. I also think Darryus McKinley ends up in the class as well whether we get Geralds or not. Filthy lineup right there.

Texas A&M suddenly projected to lose a shocking recruiting battle to rival SEC program with head coach on the hot seat
-Ian Valentino

Texas A&M suddenly projected to lose a shocking recruiting battle to rival SEC program with head coach on the hot seat originally appeared on A to Z Sports.

The Texas A&M Aggies have been one of the strongest recruiting programs in the nation as the 2026 class shapes up. With the fifth-best class and their hands in the mix for several top-end uncommitted prospects, Mike Elko is lurking for his first No. 1 class with the program.

To get there, though, he has to close the deal on guys like four-star receiver Jase Mathews. The Mississippi native is choosing between Auburn, LSU, Texas A&M, and Ole Miss. Shockingly, he's leaning toward Auburn.

LSU has also appeared to usurp the Aggies in the race, but the Tigers seem safely ahead despite head coach Hugh Freeze's own concerns as to whether his job his safe.

Mathews has previously been very complimentary of Auburn wide receivers coach Marcus Davis.

“He’s my guy,” Mathews said in June. “Me and Coach Davis stay in touch. We talk at least twice a week. He’s a young coach and we have built a good connection. It just gets stronger day by day.

“He showed me things I can do to get better. He also gave me some life tips outside of football and is telling me I’m a priority.”

His relationship with Auburn star freshman quarterback Deuce Knight has also been a driving force in their efforts, and the Aggies simply lack that connection between their young talent and Mathews. That's a tough battle to win.

On3 stated that Auburn has committed the financial means to land Mathews and has created the type of environment and relationships that typically are enough to seal the deal. If that sticks, Elko and company must pivot to look elsewhere for a foundational offensive piece.

Yella Wood is getting involved. At least we're fine at WR, and aTm loses again. Reason to be happy, and Aubie isn't going anywhere good imo.

Significant development in the "Mathews Sweepstakes" with all signs pointing towards an LSU versus Auburn battle down the stretch.

The LSU Tigers will remain a program to watch as a decision inches closer on August 8.

Auburn considers this a can't miss in their recruiting class.....

A friend of mine played HS ball at Scotlandville with Deuce’s dad. He says Duece still has a lot of family here and they are hoping for LSU so they can see him play. No prediction but family is holding on to optimism right now. He announces 8/2 I believe.
