Metal Building Shop Insulation

Getting mixed reviews about standard insulation with the building install or going with spray foam after. Its roughly a 800sqft shop that will mainly be used as a boat shed. I was quoted 4-5k to insulate the shed with the white faced rolls of insulation in between the sheet metal and structure. I'm thinking to spray foam 800sqft would be about the same cost.

Usually you can get it from whoever your order the building and installation cost is minimal if they put it on when they put the metal.
4-5k for the standard white insulation on a 800sqft building is obscene.
You could likely get an 800sqft building spray foamed for close to that price.

I agree. Caught me off guard when he said 4-5k.

I would probably go spray foam. We had a build put up in the 90's with roll white face insulation and it is cracking and tearing. I have a buddy that they put chicken wire then insulation then the metal and his still looks good. But without some support the white backing is not enough to support the insulation on the ceiling and if you just touch the wall it pops a hole on it. You could plywood the walls to keep from bumping them and making holes.

I'll put it like this. When I said I wanted to add the insulation to my shop (30x60x18), the builder added the insulation material cost but didn't even add on any labor to my price. Its barely any additional work.

Yea I messed up and didn’t get it up front when I bought my 24x40. Wish I had bc adding it after the fact is obscene.

I put it up cause it didn't cost me hardly anything, but I can honestly say I don't think it does much of anything. It is hot as hell in the summer. I think large exhaust fans (multiple) are better for cooling it down.
Of course spray foam and A/c would be the best way to cool it down but $$.

quote:thats because when installed during erection it goes between the girt and the panel...you just roll it down and screw thru the insulation. if done afterwards, it has to be cut to fit and either tape (shitty idea) or galvanized strapping (better) used to hold it in place...very tedious
Wish I had bc adding it after the fact is obscene.
