I need a carburetor for a John Deere mower, but it is about $300 from the dealership. I see them on Amazon for $100 - $150, but am reading the quality on the aftermarket are hit-and-miss.

Has anyone had success with a particular aftermarket carburetor for a 22hp Briggs and Stratton engine? I am not really interested in trying to rebuild.

I hear Hipa on Amazon are good units. I have not tried myself.

Put one on my brother's JD rider. He says it is hard to start but runs well

Ive used knock off carbs on some smaller Briggs push mower engines and they've worked fine. Idk anything about the bigger ones. I tried using a knock off on an old fourwheeler and the jets weren't right. Took me a while to figure out. I put the OEM jets in the new carb and it worked fine after that.

I bought one a few years ago for my 717a and it worked just fine.

Just replaced the carb on my JD walk behind. (Briggs engine). Got it from Amazon for $25.00. Runs great.

John Deere parts have insane markup. Identify the particular Briggs engine, and Id bet you can find an OEM carb for half of what big green wants to charge. Don't go Chinese.

The engine is a 22 HP V-twin. They are so much cheaper, I am thinking about buying a few from different manufacturers and counting on one of them to work. I will still be far ahead cost-wise!

I just bought one on Amazon for the Briggs 22 v-twin. Really hard to find the right one. Apparently most of those engines have two barrel carbs and mine has a single so make sure to double check what you have.
