Staying in Gulfport for the week, right near island view casino.
Have a 16ft Carolina skiff with no trolling motor. Have a Cajun anchor and a traditional anchor.
Would like to target trout, redfish, flounder, sheepshead.
Where to fish, what to use?

I know little about the area, but a buddy who fishes frequently fishes the islands South of the Bay.

Live shrimp or vudu shrimp under popping cork

He’s talking about the barrier islands but I wouldnt take a 16ft Carolina Skiff out there. Some closer in spots to try are around the outside of Gulfport Harbor and around Broadwater Marina in Biloxi. There’s also some artificial reefs up and down the coast not too far off from the beach front

Have a buddy who fished Cat Island today and caught two specks over 20" today. Plastic in 3-5' water. He was in a 20' skeeter though.

We fished in Bay St Louis between the bridges, chasing birds. Caught plenty of trout, but only two keepers. 15” size limit is tough for speckled trout.

Not the best place or method for size this time of year.

Haven’t been on the water in a LONG time. It was just really fun to bend some rods.

No doubt. Do as mentioned above and fish the rocks around GPT harbor with live croakers. You will catch.

Planning on fishing here tomorrow. We are actually staying right near here. Looking at the rocks as I type this.
A few questions…
Having a hard time finding live croakers. Will shrimp or cocahoes work?
Fish on bottom or under a cork?
Fish closer to the beach or further down the rocks?

Check w/ B&W in the old Pass Harbor. 228-860-4207

Yes, but you'll get a lot more trash fish with shrimp in the summer. Cocahoes on the bottom are a slam dunk for that area for flounder right now.

Bottom, but be prepared to get snagged occaisonally.

Never know until you go, but I'd start in closer and closer to the rocks early and then move out deeper and further down as it starts to warm up.
