Thought I’d get the most useful answers from this board.

Sold my practice, moved to BR, working as an independent contractor. I need a CPA for income tax purposes. Shouldn’t be too complicated, I think. Income, interest from savings, etc. I’m looking for a CPA who’s reasonably good and not overly busy, maybe one under 40 y.o. who hasn’t filled his client list yet.
Thx in advance.

57-year-old semi-retired CPA in Haile, LA (by choice). I wish you luck with your search meeting your requirements.

Can’t help you in br. I am Florida based and taking new clients.

Did you sell the practice and report on your 2024 return or will it be reported on your 2025 return?

Are you set on them being in BR? Most firms are totally paperless now. You’ll get better value looking in smaller cities/towns.

That makes 2025 much easier. I still have my br phone number if you’d like to connect.

I’m in the panhandle but No worries if you’d rather someone local.

And, Turbotax is out of the question?

Probably. I’d like to be able to sit across the desk from him occasionally to ask questions. I’m not computer-illiterate, but pretty close. Still write checks, got Venmo a year ago.

I don’t know who really even does this anymore. I charge my clients that are a pain in the arse as such. This comes off in this category, to be honest

As a former owner of a small CPA firm in BR, I would encourage you to go to a small local practitioner. He or she will be much more likely to spend one on one time with you. You will pay lower fees and get just as good if not better expertise.

Blunt, but accurate.

If you’re willing to pay $180+/hour to ask questions, then go ahead. But don’t request in person meetings or constant phone calls and then get mad at the bill. This is how a $400 tax return turns into a $800+ tax return.

Yeah, if you call me every once in a while or shoot an email, I don’t mind giving you 15 or 30 minutes of my time.

But I have clients that send 2 or 3 10-15 minute questions a week. I can’t (won’t) give you 20 hours of free time over the course of the year

Solid advice. I have always used solos, been with the same guy for 20 years now.

Firm guys dont do anything and bill the shite out of you.
