Closes in a week, I believe. That said, I hope it ain't costing you a bunch of $. I can't imagine upkeep is continuing this late in the game. It wasn't ever great to begin with.

I have loved it the times I have played it. Find it pretty odd that it’s closing…
(I haven’t played in a couple of years though)

Land got sold for houses. Ever since the current ownership bought it like 2011ish it's gone downhill, spotty course conditions, no money put into the facilities.

Last time I played there was probably 10 years ago. Lighting greens. They had also lost their liquor license but the cart girls would accept donations for beer in the cart.

They were keeping it up but it’s closing soon. Overpriced, but costs $70-$80 to play a goat ranch in Houston these days.
Prob worth it to pay a little bit more and play Blackhorse down the street.

A little more means over 50% more. Blackhorse is outrageous now. It's over $150 on the weekend. I played Cypress Lakes a couple of months ago, and I was surprised at the shape it was in compared to how it usually is. The greens were pretty good. It's a shame it's closing, because I would pay $90 to play there before I paid $155 to play blackhorse.

Man, it is weird, because this morning I got an email stating they would be having kids summer camp through the summer... maybe an automated email.

Yeah man, I just looked at a tee time for Saturday morning at Blackstone and it was $140...

How’s Houston National these days? It’s in the area and used to be a decent course. Played it a couple of years ago and paid $75 and I don’t think there was a piece of green grass on it outside of the greens.

I hate Houston National. It could be a personal thing and others may think differently, but there are a lot of things that irk me:
1. I've started rounds there 4 times, and I don't think I ever made it to the 18th hole. The pace of play was so slow that I couldn't take it anymore. It takes a lot to get me to leave a golf course, and I only live 8 minutes away. So, it was that bad. Living 8 minutes away should mean that I play this course a lot more, but I just avoid it due to these things.
2. I don't enjoy having ditches everywhere on the course. The mounds are nice to hide the fact that you are in a normal, neighborhood course. I just don't find it enjoyable.
3. Of all the courses in Cypress, I think this brings out the golfers with the least golf etiquette IQ.

The free hot dog at the turn prob attracts them to the way overpriced course.
With that said, I’m close to quitting Houston area public golf. Seems every public course is what you described. 6 hour round at Jersey Meadow last weekend.

For the life of me, I don’t understand why people that play more than a few times a month don’t join a private facility. Public golf for the most part absolutely sucks.

It does and it’s painful. I’m sorry, but having to wait as a 4some for 10-15 minutes at every single tee box is not fun at all. I’ve experienced this at basically every local course on a weekend unless the weather is horrible, you may get lucky. Nothing is more deflating than making the turn and seeing 8-10 carts lined up on 10.
My problem is I don’t plan on being here more than 2 more years. Makes it hard to commit to a club.

I am a member of a private club in Louisiana, where I reside. I am visiting friends and family to the Houston area for the holiday.

Saw a video on TikTok this week showing the pro shop basically empty no merchandise at all, haven’t seen a review about the course yet. If you’re coming from out of town, see if you can get a tee time at Cypresswood Traditions instead, it’s a fantastic course and not much more of a green fee.

If location is not a concern, Traditions is one of my favorite courses in Houston. However, if you are in the Cypress area, I will warn you that Traditions is on the opposite side of the city and about a 50 minute drive.
If the OP is in the Cypress area, I would recommend driving a half hour north to High Meadow Ranch. It's one of the few courses that I think is worth what they charge.
