Best Way to Stop Wind-Driven Rain on Open Gable Patio?

My covered patio has an open gable roof facing SSW, similar to picture above. When it rains with a southern wind, wind-driven rain hits the patio furniture. I plan to screen the porch eventually, but screening the gable won’t stop the rain.
I want to keep light coming through the open gable, so I don’t want to install solid siding. What would you recommend—polycarbonate, glass, louvre panels? I’m looking for an affordable solution.

is the furniture getting wet the only issue to solve for?
Could just get furniture covers until you eventually screen it in.

I would screen the entire porch including gable if that will stop the water from entering the porch. Will the screen stop the rain?

Please don’t screen that in, the patio looks great and screening it will be an eye sore

Please rotate your table 90 degrees, it'll look better and not be so close to the side the rain is coming in!

That’s not my patio, just an example with a similar roof. I mainly want to screen it in to keep bugs out. I don’t mind a slight eye sore to peacefully watch a football game without getting eaten up.
I don’t think screened porches look too bad.

I have a screened in porch and wind driven rain basically turns in to a wind driven mist through the screen. My patio furniture still gets damp but not soaked.

Have a few big box fans blowing the opposite direction as the wind

You could plant hedge walls on the sides or get a roll down screen

We got a good rain this afternoon and you can see the water line 10’ inside the roof and all over the furniture.
Maybe I’ll just get a large 10’x13’ patio umbrella.

I used 5/8” thick polycarbonate for my office windows. My wife and I installed them. These panels are heavy and incredibly strong. If you’re staying there long term, you should consider them for that gable area. I have a 925sq ft sunroom and used 325sq ft for my office. My other 600sq ft are screened in and I have roll down screens around the entire 925sq ft. Keeps the sun and rain out when needed. Just be careful with giant screens. They hold wind very well.
You can see the shades down (during my office build) in this pic:

Thanks, looks good. Where did you get the poly sheets? Ordered to size it cut them yourself?

A) don’t ruin your great patio with a screen unless you have big issues
B) much of it has to do with the facing of the open end and where your weather typically comes from
C) there are roll down options you could have installed with weather resistant fabric that would not be visible when not needed if you want an inexpensive option.
If you want expensive you should go with roll down glass that’s almost like a garage door as you sometimes see in bars and restaurants but again… not inexpensive.

I think it was actually the 1/2” thickness. I can’t see my order online anymore. It was three years ago. Good folks. They were very helpful. I had nine custom sizes done and they were dead-on perfect.
