I need to use an ozone generator to remove a smoke odor from a guitar amp.

I am aware to only use the generator in short time periods on the amp due to the plastic and electrical components.

What is the best "chamber" I can make for one? Someone told me a cardboard box would be fine with the amp and generator sitting inside in the box?

Any advice?

Big cardboard box or upside down trash can should work.

Can you fit it inside a plastic tub?

Yup.

Another question, do I need to cut a hole in the plastic tub for a tube from the ozone generator or just place the generator in the tub closed up? Assuming the generator needs outside air to pump in. Thanks.

I would think you could not fully seal the lid and it should be fine. Maybe a couple small holes in lid for a little more flow. That will also let you keep the tub useful later. I don’t know the exact science but I think you want to replace the air with ozone to a large degree.

Cardboard would work fine if you put it outside or something. Wouldn't want it to leak out into the room you are in.

I have 2 ozone machines, I’ve never had an issue with external items being damaged. My understanding is they convert O2 to O3. I’m not sure why O3 would harm anything?

I’ve ran them in a car before, that’s an easy way to do this also. They are fantastic at removing vehicle smoke smells. Not 100% if it was a many year chain smoker but damn good job.

I think you are over thinking it OP. Just make sure to air out any room you use it in, but just running it in like a bathroom with your amp and then opening the house to allow some fresh air in for 2 mins after is more than fine.

Sure am! Didn't want to kill myself or my family. Think I'll stick the guitar or amp in my car and kill two or three birds with one stone!
