Okay Scott Woodward, it's time for you go to work and offer Jay Johnson a lifetime contract. Let Johnson name his price.. He definitely earned it.

That's a horrible. Lifetime contracts NEVER workout for more than a handful of years.

We will call for him to be fired after his first loss next season!

Not that JJ isn’t proven himself as a great coach, this is the exact same knee jerk mentality that gave O a huge payraise, extension, generally favorable terms of guaranteed funds, and therefore meh motivation and collapse of the program.

Make the money outrageous, but don't make it a lifetime. Those never work.

Ask jay what he wants. If it’s reasonable, say yes.
Profit.
Profit.

Worked great for UK basketball.

Of course.

While you’re right, I think Jay and O have different priorities after winning a title and there’s a lot less pressure to rebuild in baseball verses football. How long did Paul stay after the 09 title? I’m less worried about Jays drive for number 9 than I was seeing coach O have the perfect team and season and trying to rebuild that.

He should be the highest paid coach. As far as the contract term, I'll leave that up to the parties. I would love it to be 5-7 years, with obvious incentives.

Why do people keep posting dumb shite like this? Jay isn't leaving. Woodward will pay him.

O had just won a national championship with the greatest season in the history of NCAA football. He wasn't even the highest-paid football coach going into that season, trailing Saban and Swinney. I think it was (and still is) par for the course when a football coach wins a national title, though perhaps the 6-year contract was too long.
Baseball is much less driven by that than football was and is, though it may be moving in that direction. Basketball is somewhere in between at most places.

The O contract extension was just dumb. Was anyone really concerned that he might bolt away from LSU for an extra million or so and a chance to coach somewhere else?

This board hates Woodward for offering money.
Everyone just let Wood do what Wood does. He doesn’t need our help.

I could be dead wrong, but JJ may be more interested in adding more numbers to the intimidator than he is adding to his bank account.

Do you realize that in most contracts it states if a coach wins a national title he will be given an X amount raise? In previous years it used to be making them the highest paid coach, but since coaching contracts began getting so out of control, I believe that was changed to top 5 in the SEC, or country, or whatever. I don't know exactly what it is, I just know it's typical for that type of language to be in the contract.

Why not let him play out his current contract until he asks for more money?

Yea, that’s never bit any program in the arse.
