Out of the two, which is better - and takes better care/protects the originals in a safer method?
Edit: since Oweo wants to be a dumbass, which is the better service to use? Quality wise and safely returning the original tapes, photos, etc?

I have used Legacy Box twice. They track and report the steps in the process which is helpful. They did a good job both times.
I can't speak for the other one. Never heard of it.

Did yall get the thumb drives? Can you download it from the cloud onto your own device(s)?

I don't know about iMemories, but know that Legacy Box does not do HD. So if you have HD videos they will come back in 360p.

My wife used legacy box. Sent them 90 films, most of the 50's and 60's of her family. They were able to get parts of 32 of them. There were a few VHS tapes that they converted to mp4 as well.
They said that was all they could get, and I don't really argue with that. Most of those tapes hadn't seen a projector in 60 or more years, so I assume they were just in poor shape, or didn't have much on them. What they converted I can view, but it wasn't a great haul.
They did refund about 1/2 the money because they have a policy on how much they can convert.
They also seem to run a deal for $9/tape regularly, so don't pay full price.

They charged something like $100 for thumb drive, so we opted for cloud download, and I downloaded everything in about 15 minutes, then put on thumb drives.
