In reverse order of importance:

1. College fans WILL NOT travel twice over the holidays for playoff games. Some teams do not travel well for bowls;

2. The Bowl system provides revenue for MANY American towns EVERY YEAR, and for many athletic programs!

3. Like it or not College Football is BIGGER than it has EVER been, and it is BECAUSE of the controversy CAUSED by the BCS system.

4. The BCS PICKS THE TWO BEST TEAMS. Does anyone think that UTAH beats FLORIDA or OKLAHOMA in a CHAMPIONSHIP GAME?!?!

The BCS works.

Although not perfect, I'd rather watch Florida vs Oklahoma for the NC than watch the Arizona Cardinals play in the Super Bowl...please 9-7!! Most who point out the flaws of the BCS fail to properly acknowledge the flaws of a playoff system

Yes. Any system designed to exclude a team that deserves a shot under any circumstances, does indeed blow. If a team deserves a shot at the national title, and doesn't even get a chance, yes, that system blows.

I agree with this...there are some major logistical issue involved with anything more than a four team playoff (spanning two separate weekends).

This is irrelevant, as you can still have the bowl games and do a playoff.

If you want a shot at the title, you need to play top ranked teams in a good conference. Thats what makes the SEC the best conference. Are you saying that Hawaii last year deserved a chance to play in the NC?

The frick? I just said that the BCS blows, which it does. Hawaii didn't deserve a shot, and wouldn't have gotten one in a playoff because they would have lost. Plus, in a four team playoff, they wouldn't have made it in anyway.

Well, that number of teams who deserve a shot are different by opinion, and may not be included in a playoff, either.

the bowl system will fall apart with a playoff system

USC in 2003? Auburn 2004? USC and Georgia in 2007? USC, Texas, and Utah in 2008?

Face it man, there are to many teams most years that deserve a shot that don't get one because our system chooses only two teams, which in most years just isn't possible.

So the Poinsettia Bowl won't mean as much if we had a 4 team playoff? The bowls are already irrelevant...see this year's Orange Bowl for proof. A playoff will not make them any more or less irrelevant.

Yeah last year I would've loved to see Virginia Tech playing in the championship game of the NCAA college football playoffs after barely winning their pathetic ACC.....playoffs would provide the best matchup...surely

oh and I really am looking forward to the opening round of the playoffs featuring Oklahoma vs North Texas.....that might make the Versus network

I disagree. Sponsors will pull out of bowls when there's a drop off in viewership.

The Bowl system is 'technically irrelevant' in some sense, but with the playoff system, that's the only thing that anyone will watch.

playoff would be administered by ncaa...meaning auto bids for all conferences

then you've got to have some wildcards so you're talking at least 14 teams..probably 16.

kiss goodbye any big time OOC games....

just something to think about
