I am boiling a hamper of crabs for fathers days and the seafood market has 25$ small to medium crawfish. Just curious if anyone has bought this size and if they really are that small. Was just doing to stock the freezer but also get one last boil in. TIA

It just means that they pulled out the big crawfish to sell at a higher price. Fun fact, crawfish heads grow un-exponentially from the tails. Therefore, when you buy large crawfish, you get less meat yield.

Depends on who you're getting them from but I've never had an issue with any of the vendors I've gotten them from. Little more work since there are more to peel, but they tend to soak up more flavor and you get more meat relative to the big ones.

A few weeks back I bought the small/mediums, and they were all nice sizes. As lunch says it all depends on the vendor. This time of year though the large ones’ shells are getting hard, and I’ve found they struggle to soak up the seasoning when they get to this point. Personally I’d take the risk and get those.

You buying some crawfish to put up in the freezer, they will be fine. Hell, get 2 sacks if they only $25.

Thats the best eating crawfish, the old hard selects are tough to peel and the meat is tough, them mediums still tender,
