The Empty Man is an awful movie

thought it was going to be good based on the clip i saw of the guys on the himalayan mtns and the 'alien' in the cave but an hour in and its just a rehash of beetlejuice and candyman. 'don't blow on a coke bottle on a bridge at night or you'll summon the monster' 
i didnt wait for the payoff. got too bored and turned it off.

becuse it was stupid. teenage girls (and guys) blowing a bottle and killing themselves. seemed very rote and predictable.
maybe i'm wrong and there's a whole 3rd act where they go and find the monster in the himalayans at the end instead of teen-slasher but it was pretty lame candyman-ish esp. w/ the dumb cop not wanting to believe its something supernatural even after the bodies start piling up.

Spoiler Alert
There is no monster. Not in the way you're conceptualizing, at least.
It's also not a slasher. It's a cosmic horror movie.
The movie is built for people who misread it like you to understand the world that was built (where you make the "candyman-ish" comparisons) isn't real. You have to watch the movie to have this "slasher" plot unravel and have the actual malevolence, in cosmic horror form, be revealed.
I know you're going to dig in and having this revealed destroys the experience, so I'll let you know another spoiler. James wasn't real, at least at first. He's a tulpa created by the cult to voyage into a journey to discover that fact so that he accepts being the Empty Man's human vessel. There is no monster or slasher, only a mysterious, vague malevolence worshipped by a cult of humans.
