This feels like a great way to nominate someone who will hand the election to John Bel.

Speaking of this race:

Do people realize the party primaries are in April of next year instead of the fall?

So get ready for a spring brawl in the bayou state of Republicans trying to out Republican each other. At least we will have the summer to mend fences and kiss and make up unlike a governor’s race in 2015.

Hopefully, the legislature put a poison pill candidacy rule where if you qualify as a candidate for a specific party you cannot requalify as another candidate for another party or try to qualify as an independent after you lose. All candidates including independents should qualify during the party primary qualification period for that election cycle.

Last thing I want is a Dim.

With no runoff a bad candidate can emerge from a crowded field with a small fraction of the vote. Should at least require the winner to have 40% to avoid a runoff.

Here is a link to an article about this in the Hayride.

The Hayride

Currently, if no one gets 50% in the closed primary there is a runoff between the two top finishers. The amendment will change that to the whoever finishes first will go to the general even if he receives less than 50% of the vote. This amendment is being pushed by the Senator Kleinpeter as a way to save money. But in reality it is a way for Cassidy,s buddies to save him as it is unlikely that he would get 50% vote in the primary and would lose in the runoff t whoever comes in second. Senate President is Cameron Henry and he is big buddies with Cassidy so expect the senate to try again.
