Hollywood Incentives Bill Passes the CA State Assembly Without $750 Million Specified, For Now
A bill set to dramatically expand California’s incentives for film and television production companies to shoot in-state has passed the California State Assembly, albeit without a mention of the $750 million program cap promised by Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Legislators voted 73 - 1 on Tuesday to pass AB 1138 and send it to the Senate, with Assemblymember Carl DeMaio of San Diego representing the sole “no” vote. The vote comes after the state Senate passed a similar bill focused on the state’s entertainment tax credit program earlier in the day, with the governor’s promised cash infusion absent from the amended legislation.

So, CA is trying, meekly, to dig itself out of the hole they put themselves into after a mass exodus?
Hilarious.
There are so many other issues that need being resolved first, but big government is gonna big government.

Idk if a good or bad bill, but trying to bring jobs and tourism to the state seem like a good thing.

They painted themselves into this corner in the 1st place, but you're gonna praise them now?
LOL

It's unconscionable that anyone happily is for this. Like praising toddlers going to a trans burlesque show in bars... it's beyond twisted. It's overtly evil and vindictive.
I see we've got at least 3 groomers on the board.

Holy hyperbole, Batman. This is why folks don’t take you seriously.
Maybe instead of sounding like a hysterical idiot, explain rationally why you think this isn’t something that should be noted as a win for the industry.

Follow the thread & don’t be so lost. I was responding to the TikTok dancing politicians *literally celebrating the continued gas tax. No sensible well meaning human should be acting like this.
There is a progression of replies throughout the thread. Don’t assume every post is a direct reply to the original.

Maybe follow your own advice, I directly quoted where you called people downvoting you groomers. Hence the hyperbole comment. Just because someone doesn't agree with your rhetoric doesn't make them groomers.
Again, care to explain why (as per your OP) this bill being passed isn't a win for the industry?
There's not a state legislature in this country at this point that doesn't pass/make bad decision in some areas while doing well in others. My own state (Kentucky) is a good example of this.

Get some fricking help. If not for your sake, for the sake of your family.

No, you didn’t.
I took you back to the start & you still got lost.
TikTok vid then my comparison to THOSE folk are comparable to anyone who celebrates Trans Drag shows for kids.
You’re reading & reacting to things I’m not saying.

I literally quoted your post.

Where in this thread did YOU coherently explain why this bill isn't a win for the industry as a whole. States providing incentives to keep film production in the United States and somewhere like California with varied terrain/locations is a good thing for us as a whole. It provides jobs within the country, which is what anyone (either side of the aisle) wants to see.
Even if they have fricked up before with it, the correction should be celebrated. Applauding when politicians correct an issue (even of their creating) is something we should do to further encourage that type of positive legislation for us all.

Jesus fricking Christ, I’ve already told you once. I’m not talking about the Hollywood incentives bill, I was replying to the TikTok of dancing Democrats. Who were celebrating something different entirely.

It makes sense to promote a homegrown business. I’d even like to see La. Revive its incentives.
You’d be surprised at how many locals had been making a living working on film production in the state.

So would the politicians! The way they have been driving away business and putting up ridiculous restrictions and regulations. But it’s only been 100 years of Hollywood being in the state so maybe they’re just starting to understand it?

And I am.
But to make it more simple for you:

Hilarious.
There are so many other issues that need being resolved first, but big government is gonna big government.
Again, how is this bill a net negative for the US and the state of California? Why shouldn't we promote and encourage when they get it right as they did in this bill?
There will always be "other things that need to be resolved" in government, but that doesn't mean legislators can't multi-task. It doesn't have to be mutually exclusive.
Can you answer that now that I laid it out for you as simplistic as possible in this thread?

I never said anything about it being a net negative. That’s your head canon. My point is basic - CA has been turned into a hellscape compared to its former glory because of progressive leftist politics.
And slow to react idiots.

Then, in the 1990s, British Columbia hatched a plan to bring some of that action north. The Canadian provincial government introduced one of the world’s first film tax credits — a financial incentive meant to lure foreign productions — offering a modest rebate on money spent employing local crews. It worked, and many U.S. states took notice. In the early aughts, Louisiana and New Mexico rolled out flashy credits of their own, transforming New Orleans and Albuquerque into viable production hubs.

They did this to themselves, yet you’d applaud them for momentarily putting down the shovel as they take a break from digging their own grave?
I find that hilarious.
