Some questions that would help would be what all you are trying to get out of it? Christmas markets?
I haven't done London but we did Paris for Thanksgiving and into December with the Christmas markets. Personally I can't stand traveling to cities in the heat of summer with flocks of tourists so I love it.
One thing to strongly remember though is that your days are much shorter in the winter.
The real question would be if you want to see snow, because that's unlikely in London.
Also, airfare generally speaking tends to run around when Americans are traveling to Europe. So home and back around Christmas. You can find some really good deals if you go a little before or a little after.

I did it for Christmas and new years and it was pretty great. The firework show is unmatched and the. Christmas decorations all over the city made it feel pretty magical. Highly recommend. And also to note I anticipated it to be much colder than it actually was. Wasn’t too bad at all.

London is great at Christmas. Mrs. Bok loves Christmas shopping on Oxford Street, especially Selfridges. Decorations are beautiful and it’s festive. Christmas Day is chill as everything closes, so book a special Christmas dinner at a high end hotel. Roast goose!
I don’t believe London has the Christmas Markets you see in Germany and Austria, so you do miss that.
And yeah, seems like it gets dark around 4:00 pm.
