Could the movie ‘Midsommar’ have been released with the genders reversed? (Spoilers)

Reversed: Group of friends visits an insular community. Guy brings his girlfriend. Girlfriend starts checking out guys in the community. Said girlfriend is drugged by the community and sexually assaulted. Guy gets mad that it happened and convinces community to drug girlfriend again, cut off her arms and legs, shove her into a bear carcass, and burn her alive.

Do you have the showtimes available?

Good thought experiment. No, it could not

Sure it could and then it becomes a social commentary on toxic masculinity or something. Last House on the Left, The Girl Next Door (the Ketchum one, not Elisha Cuthbert), etc all exist.
Does it perform as well or is it as well regarded after release? Probably not because the whole plot of Midsommar revolves around gender norms and upending expectations

Probably true of every movie and tv show these days.
Women being mistreated is "problematic"
Men being mistreated is "thought provoking"

I must've fell asleep during this weird movie, cause I for sure don't remember the dude's arms and legs being cut off.
I remember him being drugged and then in the suit getting torched.
It was a weird movie, and I didn't like it.

I looked this up. Apparently in the director’s cut, there’s a Gigli saw on the table that Christian and the bear are placed on.
They never showed the amputation, but I guess there was no other way to fit him in the bear suit.
