Who is our 3rd starter in the post season?

Evans, Noot, Shores?
Somebody else?
Somebody else?

I want Noot. Move Evans back to the pen and provide us a great option as a long Reliever.

I’d go Noot so that Evans is available in the pen. Shores has settled into relieving pretty well. His fb is touching 100 frequently, I think he’s good in that role.

If Noot can start and get you 2-3 then realistically Evans, Shores, and Cowan can get you to the end. But I think we’re going to see Williams and Mayers extend in some early regional games if we are up big.

Noot would be my choice. I hope shores goes to the closer.

With Cowan struggling I’d move Evans back to the bullpen. Leave Shores in the bullpen because he has looked really good after moving to the pen. Noot would be my starter.

Good question. I’d guess whoever we have left when the time comes. If it were planned I’d probably go Noot too

I think those are your 3 likely candidates. Ware blew his shot Thursday night and Schmidt hasn’t looked ready for anything beyond mid-week at any point since the first month of the season.
As for who goes in the regional if all 3 are rested, that may come down to matchups and scouting. As for reality if we make a deep run, it will come down to whether you need any of them in relief in a close game. If we are in a loser’s bracket situation, there is no tomorrow and you burn anyone you have to to stay alive.
I would prefer it to be Evans or Noot, just because Shores has looked a lot better coming out of the pen when he can just throw gas and try to overpower hitters. Evans has looked shakier lately, but we saw him roll over UT after the first inning, so he can do it. Noot has really come on over the last month, and has some good movement when he’s at his best. But I don’t think any of them has a major advantage over the others right now. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Shores and Fontenot have both really looked good recently as 1 to 2 inning closers or to get out of a jam.

Jaden Noot’s average outing:
1.2 IP
26 pitches
If you want to go with an opener, fine. If you want a real starter, it’s not him.
I’d continue with Evans and fill his old role with Shores, supplemented with Noot.

Can't do that unless there are no more games to play. You have to have pitchers in the pen who are fresh.

If jay didn’t eat crayons he would have tried Jacob Mayers in starter role in some earlier midweek games to see if he could work through some issues. Thought that’s why we brought him in. Elite stuff…..

I think Shores is looking good because he’s coming around, and moving to the pen has nothing to do with it. Of course, all of us would use Evans as the third starter if he’s available. If he’s not, I would try Shores again. I think he has the best chance, besides Evans, to go twice through the order.

His last outing he went 4 IP. They have been bringing him along slowly, so the average for the year reflects neither what he is capable of nor what the coaches think he can do now.

Innings do not matter, pitches do. He threw more pitches in a game in April (67 vs the 55 he threw on Thurs). There is no pattern saying he is being ramped up to start or throw more.
He has other outings this season of 41, 42, and 41.
Of course, every single one of these outings are included in his average. His average outing does not represent what his max load is. It wasn't presented that way. That is why it is called an average.

I didn’t mean they were prepping him to start or ramping up his workload. I meant they were slowly giving him a more important role in SEC play. An average that includes 1 or 2 batter outings earlier in the year as they expanded his role just does not reflect what his may be going forward.

Then why bring it up and use it to support an argument that he can’t/won’t give many innings in a starting role?

because just as I said, he would only be a candidate to start if he was used as an opener.
Not sure what you think he is becoming
Do you care to expand? His max for a single game this year is 4IP (2x), and 67 pitches. And his average is just what I explained, which is perfectly relevant as to what to expect from him.

Johnny Wholestaff because at this point I'd say Evans, Noot, and Shores are too valuable out of the pen so whoever is available come that time.
