It's way past time for an electronic strike zone

We have witnessed shite umpiring in the SEC this season, even worse than I can ever remember. They're not improving. No one is happy with the inconsistent strike zones.

Don't give me that "purity of the game" bullshite. Changes have been made to improve or speed up the game--the green bag, the pitch clock and so on.

This would be a huge improvement and then no one could bitch about whether something was a strike or ball. The electronic system would be consistent.

It's time for the SEC to lead the way.

I would hate an electronic zone. Hating umpires is a major part of baseball.

There is no way that the SEC doesn't have the data available to show how many strike/ball calls were missed. I watch way more than just LSU and the calls are regularly terrible. I don't think the level of umpiring is on par with the level of pitching they are calling. It's wildly inconsistent sometimes inning to inning.

I hear you. I’ve been back and forth on the matter. Taking away umpires will ultimately hurt the game. Coaches and fans getting into it with the umpires is apart of the game. No umpires would take away some excitement from the game.

But Evans giving up multiple runs in an inning largely based off of a botched strike 3 shouldn't be.

Umpires can still be part of the game, calling outs on bases. But even there we have video reviews. There are no reviews of pitches, even when we can see the call is clearly wrong. That needs to change. And reviews of pitches are out of the question, so why not improve the accuracy with electronics?

Absolutely time for electronic strike zone. These dudes are terrible and it’s not really there fault.

Why don't we have the strike box in all our games? Pros do so why not us.

The NCAA umpires union got espn to remove the strike zone after a few games in Omaha one season. Then it never came back.

Sounds like we just need better umpires.

I agree completely. The SEC is one of the best baseball products in the world. Why don’t we have better umpires? It’s not like all umpires are bad. I think the conference needs to make a serious effort in the offseason to get this improved.

bullshite. Tired of jackasses bad at their jobs getting to decide games. Everyone wants no home plate ump, just do it already

Replays are fine, but sensors for balls/strikes, no thanks.

Put the strike zone on the screen like they do MLB. MLB umps are pretty consistent. Would be curious to see the zone against college umps. They miss a ton.

They do miss a ton. Most of the time the zone is bigger. I don’t think you guys want an MLB strike zone in college ball.

You have been bookmarked and are one of the most credible posters on this subject. It is time for an AI to make the calls. Bring on the electric eye. The Ump just needs to administer player and coaches behavior.

I really don't care as long as it's accurate and consistent. Pitchers have to guess what an ump is going to call, and even then, they're inconsistent within a game.

I’d like to see better umpires, not an electronic zone. The SEC can afford to shell more money for better umpires
