We will be attending the Josh Radin Concert in New Orleans in a couple weeks and are deciding where to go eat before. I keep hearing excellent things about these two places. I looked them up online and still are not sure. I would rather hear from people that have been there to explain the difference or which is better. I like to try new foods and wines because everytime I go to a restaurant I always end up getting the Filet or something like that.

you'll be fine at either. Choose one based on who has the most convenient reservation time available.

IMO they're 1a and 1b. Just flip a coin, you won't be disappointed.

Just know that if you go to Stella, be sure to budget a couple hours for dinner.
I've never been to August, so I don't know how long they take.

yeah i was planning on getting a reservation for 5:30 just in case it takes a while. Any suggestions on what appetizers are the best and entrees.

Can I tell you after tonight?...I will have gone to both in the last month by then.
August has been numero uno for me since my first visit, but Stella! has always run a close second...
If money is no option and you have two dinners...you have chosen the best two places.

I had dinner at Restaurant August about a month ago, and we were there for 2 hours. This is not the kind of place where you want to rush things.
The must have appetizer is the gnocchi with crabmeat and truffles...it is $19, but you won't regret. "Oysters 3-Ways" is also phenomenal.
Wish I could tell you about Stella!

You should NEVER wear jeans to a place like this. Some places are becoming lax on dress code. But its almost insulting to the establishment.

Catmann I agree with you if you are talking about older restaurants commanders,Antoines ETC.
But i have eaten at many newer type restaurants August, gordon Ramsay's at the London, that in my opionion it is ok to wear nice jeans(not the goofy looking designer type) Dress shirt and Sport coat too, at least thats what I did and never saw anyone look down on it..
So I ask again to someone who has dined at Stella is it ok??

I beleive that el tiger dined there in jeans so I thinks its ok. I just think when dining out you should never be dressed less than the people that are waiting on you. Unless of course they are wearing tuxes.

It sounds like you already answered your own question..."Well, nobody ever said anything, and I personally think it's okay..."
Of course you haven't been told anything before - the restaurant staff doesn't want to run the risk of upsetting someone - especially when the economy is bad...hence the lax dress code rules of recent times.
Why would you not want to forego jeans at a place like Stella?? Jeans are for a million other places and meals...

i don't even remember what i wore at Stella! I know that there was no tie or jacket involved. Probably slacks and a button up. But, there was more than one person in jeans, button up, and sportcoat and it looked just fine.
Hell, there were jeans at commanders last time i went....lots of them.

I just remember you starting a thread asking if the blue bloods will look down on you or something to that extent.

And several schmucks in golf shirts when I went there for dinner...it's not uncommon anymore.

yeah, i remember the thread. It was mainly at a jab at the part of new orleans that i detest, but i really put amazingly little thought into what i wear. I am not even sure what i wore yesterday.

true.
i guess when times are lean you have to take the business. At least it isn't as bad as Brennan's for a Sunday brunch.....where i think fanny packs and sandals outnumber collars on shirts.
