We are thinking about going snapper fishing this weekend.

If going out of venice marina, would south pass be safe with how high the river is (debris, current, etc)?

That’s what I’m on the lookout for. We will probably wait until daylight to go run the river

I don’t know about south pass but I was on the river/pass a loutre today and there is a crazy amount of logs floating around.

How crazy? Enough to take another pass like baptiste or red pass?

Zero reason to run before sunrise. Not sure what structure you plan to fish, but the sun being help helps sight cast to Cobia and mangroves like to get on the shady side of the rig.

The debris was really just piled in the river. I didn’t notice near as many logs in pass a loutre. I guess it depends where you’re headed. I don’t know where you are trying to get to but the garden island bay blowout stuff might affect your plans, I’m not sure how that is affecting south pass or the area around it. Coast guard has some postings about it.

I fished the east side on Friday and Saturday and came in through baptiste. Plenty of debris and logs outside baptiste and around Breton. Fished west delta on Sunday and didn’t see any logs. Red pass was clear too. Wouldn’t run river in dark right now, especially for snapper.

Logs can and will likely be in all the passes. It's not like one will be any better than the other. You could run and see none or you could run and see tons it's all just luck of the draw but it's not like one pass will be way better than any other.

If you go be careful and defiantly no need to run in the dark.
