Nate Yeskie Pitch Calling

Seeing a lot of hate on Jay Johnson, but to me the biggest issue with the coaching is the pitch calling. Yeskie called four straight fastballs to A&M's best hitter with the game on the line, and we got punished for it.
Bullpen and pinch hitting decisions aside, pitch calling has cost us more runs this year than most other coaching decisions

What at bat was this?

The home run was on a change up. He was sitting on it because that’s Cowan’s best pitch

It’s atrocious. Too many uncompetitive pitches. Even when we get guys down 0-2 or 1-2 we through pitches that don’t even make the hitters think. Plays with his food.

Missing spots, hitting batters, and hanging breaking balls is not pitch calling no matter how much you guys want to call it that.

It was a 92mph fastball. Check the tape, my guy

Definitely wasnt.
Was a grooved 2-1 92FB

Let’s ignore the fact we’ve had 2 CGs this year for the first time in forever. How does that jive with wasting pitches?

Yeah, bro. They're college kids. And they were doing well enough to win despite their mistakes until Yeskie, a grown adult being paid lots of money, decided to groove fastballs in the most pivotal part of the game

Correct, after Cowan missed low on pitch 2 and wasn’t competitive on pitch 3 with his FB.
Obviously it wasn't supposed to be middle middle on the HR pitch.

This can’t be a serious post.

The fact that it was a fastball at all, for the fourth pitch in a row, is the issue, especially considering that Cowan's best pitch is his changeup. This also isn't the only time Yeskie has called a bad sequence in a big spot this year. He was notorious for this issue last season as well

As serious as a heart attack

Cowan missed that pitch. He missed all weekend. They laid off of the change out of the zone. He has been exposed.

He's not wrong. Im not sure Cowan has thrown 4 fastballs in a row all year. The pitch calling in that situation is perplexing.

Oh I gotcha. So I guess our only way forward was to just throw fastballs and pray the park held them. If that's the case, good on Yeskie

It's just one series, guy.

The hitter said he was waiting on a heater to drive..and he got it.
