Do LSU fans get upset when any player in the state thinks about playing for a school out of state that LSU wants or just the ones that LSU wants that think about going to Alabama? Just curious. I wasn't sure if it was a LSU thing for any school, an Alabama thing, or a Saban thing? I know we all want the home state guys to go to the state school, but generally I wish all of them the best regardless of the school they choose.

Thanks for any replies. Again, not trying to cause trouble, just new to the board.

You're being offensive.

ok, but seriously, that's a god question. As you can relate prolly, why would any in-state player want to play for someone else? Represent the home school but we forget not all recruits think like that, they're not all fans of the home team, and not all think the home school is the best situation for them.

LSU and Bama is unique because we're so close and overlap in our recruiting grounds. But we're also division opponents. And yeah, Saban plays a big part. Let's put it this way. Your fiance........who promises to be with you forever.........breaks up with you for another girl........but then decides to start dating a good friend of yours in the same group of friends. Now you have to see each other all the time and compete for similar friends' attention.

That make sense?

I think that's how all fans are though, you can't be optimistic at loosing out on a great player, whether he pans our or not. I think we get less frustrated when they go out of the conference since we won't have to worry about it coming back and biting us in the arse

Its mostly any school, its just strangely funny and frustrating how many kids in LA are now highly recruited and favor both LSU and Bama.

But you cant blame Saban. He knows the area, and he knows that LSU has no natural instate rivals, so he can come in and take some of the kids that just miss an LSU offer.

Also, I think a small part of the reason that Saban comes after top LA guys is that he wants to give LSU a run on some of these kids, and make our coaches work harder on our in state kids so we cant spend as much time and resources recruiting the same kids Bama does in areas like Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, etc.

Not to say our coaches have not done a good job recruiting those areas, but who knows who else we might have had a chance at if we didnt have to focus so hard on keeping kids like RR, Tolliver, Clement, Mingo, etc in Louisiana.

Since LSU is the only school in the state that is in a BCS Conference, I think we expect guys to come to LSU more than most fans. Bama fans are used to losing some guys to Auburn, Florida fans lose guys to the U and FSU, etc. We don't lose guys to Tulane, Tech, ULL, etc., so we expect them to come to LSU (perhaps a little too much).

I think that the hatred for Bama really intensified because of Saban. Before, it was just another SEC West rival. Fortunately, we have yet to lose a guy that we truly covet to Saban. When that happens, the Board will have a meltdown for some time.

I also think that our fans get annoyed at guys like McKnight who unnecessarily lead us on.

For small states like La and Bama we have to keep our instate guys or the programs will suffer. Texas loses alot of stars every year but they have so many to choose from they can get by.

Of coarse we want every instate guys to stay instate but as long as we get 90% of the guys we want we'll be ok.

I don't pull for the instate guys that leave state until they go pro. I don't want any college to have success but LSU. That's part of being a fan a guess.

i sure don't. i think it is a myth started and maintained by rival fans who are jealous when they don't get Louisiana kids.

It's not all LSU fans and I don't think it's all personal. Some are just sensitive when LSU bloggers rag on them, but they continue to come to an LSU site. Like you.

It is probably worse when it's the #1 or #2 prospect in the Nation.

How did Bama deal with Coach Thompson going to Tenn? Or Jamarcus Russell? Phelon Jones? etc.

I do understand what you are saying; I guess it is a little different in Alabama since we have two schools to choose from instead of one (well we sort of have two schools, I don't claim the other. For the record, no disrespect intended to the other Louisiana schools, but you know what I mean when I say one). I guess I was more curious after hearing all the stuff with regard to Luther Davis and his parents getting a hard time which I personally don't know how much is true or not true). I know I didn't like JaMarcus Russell going to LSU at all, but if the Luther stuff had any truth to it...I was kind of confused. It never crossed my mine to give his family a hard time about his decision even if I didn't agree with it. I guess that is why I was wondering if it was more of a Saban thing. Thanks for your comments. They were appreciated. You did punk me just a bit by the way you started. :)

Some of the stuff that Luther has said has been completely the opposite of what has happened, according to his high school football coach, as well as his father's employer.

I realize that they may both have an incentive to spin things in a pro-LSU way, but I don't think that is the case. Luther has repeatedly shown himself to be a very unreliable person.

hey. Thanks for all the replies guys. You guys were all very cordial and quick with the responses. I really appreciate it. I agree, all the bad blood can get blown out of proportion...what we all really want...is OUR school (whatever that might be) to get all the 5 Stars and kick everyone else's butts!

I don't know how anyone could argue with that!

What are you insinuating? That it happens in Louisiana?

Luther Davis

Not exactly a trustworthy source.

ETA: or am I just reading your posts wrong?

does it bother me yes, does it piss me off no. Some guys just want to leave the state and see other places. This happens everywhere, I can't imagine Alabama & Auburn were too happy when Jemarcus Russell signed @ LSU. Some kids just want to get away from home.

I would only hold animosity for someone who holds their state school hostage for the sake of a moment in the sun.

LA kid grows up a fan of another school or wants to get away, fine, no problem.

But, when you purposely mislead your own state school for ulterior motives such as creating hype, attention, and suspense for yourself, school, and/or coach, then I have a problem with it. And that's not taking into account that the state school has probably not only held a scholly for you, but easily could have passed on other options.

if Luther Davis tells you the sky is blue you should go outside just to double check.

And I'm glad everyone's being so cordial to you but don't act like LSU has the market cornered on crazy when you went to Ala-fricking-bama.

I've always felt we should recruit Alabama harder just to keep Nicky boy busy and out of Louisiana. This is what he's doing to us.

But now Nicky has his own problems. Both Auburn (unlike when Tubby was there) and the Vols have hired gunslinger recruiters who will keep Nicky worrying about recruiting his own state. It's easy to shut down the borders in Louisiana, but not in Alabama........not now especially.

I don't speak for anyone else. For me, it's very simple. We want our university, our academic staff, and our football coach to keep every talented student and athlete that grew up here in our state.

I'm sure you would want the same for Alabama.

No. He went to Alabama. They have CLASS. He lovingly wishes everyone the best and lets the chips fall where they may . . . and if Alabama wins a few football games here and there? Hey man. Thats just gravy.
