The only way I can imagine the Pats keeping him is if Brady is so far behind schedule that he could be doubtful going into the middle of the season. NE is one of the wisest buy low/sell high teams around. Anyone remember Tebucky Jones for a 3rd, 4th, and 7th? They'll franchise him and get a 1st Rd PLUS. No one wants to pay $875K PER GAME for your backup QB.

I'd laugh if they traded him and Brady went down with injury again in the first few games.

Yeah, or Brady goes down again and Matt Cassel becomes the permanent starter. It would be poetic just for what happened to Drew Bledsoe...what comes around goes around!

He could prove me wrong, but I think his success was due to him being a system QB studying behind one of the best QBs on one of the best coached teams in the league. Cassel had a great year, but I'd be interested to see what he does for someone ala Detroit, KC, etc...

Like you said, a buy low, sell high situation. Nothing to lose here for the Pats in that aspect, but really risky with Bradys situ...

I've said the same thing, but when you watch him play he is one helluva an athlete and makes great decisions with the ball. Its gonna be interesting watching this situation unfold.

I'm witcha in not being sold on a guy that was a backup for 7 years (and had no qualms about it)They could get a Kyle Boller as backup. Make him look good in the system too (if Brady gets hurt) then gets some value for him. NE is the best equivalent of how baseball showcases players before trading them.

The joke will be on the team who gives up a 1st round pick and more for a product of a system.

Minn, Detroit and KC would be the only ones going after him I imagine. I hope no one makes a crazy trade and NE gets stuck with a huge contract.

As far as supporting casts...

Patriots > Lions, Chiefs, 49ers.

There is pretty much zero chance that Boller could look nearly as good as Cassell in that system.

Boller is TERRIBLE.

Regardless of the system, he came in and played extremely well. I can't remember a qb who came in and was as effective as he was when he had never been a starter before, and probably never expected to be.

Yeah, he really wronged Bledsoe by stepping in and leading the Pats to a Super Bowl title that season and then 2 more after that.

Jackass!
