Third Democratic Senator to Step Down: ‘A Tough Map’

quote:
Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) recently announced her retirement, making 2026 the end of her political career as the first woman elected as both governor and U.S. senator. Shaheen’s decision has intensified existing challenges for the Democratic Party, as she is the third Democratic senator to step down. Shaheen stated, “It was a difficult decision, made more difficult by the current environment in the country — by President Trump and what he’s doing right now.”
quote:
Open Senate seats typically provide strong opportunities for party flips in midterm elections. Former Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) has expressed interest in running for the seat. Republican Governor Chris Sununu (R-NH) has also left the door open for a potential Senate bid. Congressman Chris Pappas (D-NH) recently emerged as a candidate for Shaheen’s replacement.
quote:
Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) noted New Hampshire’s history of electing moderate Republicans. He wrote, “Another one! Shaheen’s retirement is welcome news for Granite Staters eager for new leadership. New Hampshire has a proud tradition of electing common-sense Republicans — and will do so again in 2026!”
LOL
quote:
Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) said, “It’s no secret we face a tough map, but we also have a lot of things going for us. Unfortunately, the chaos and confusion of this administration is reverberating and rippling throughout the economy.”

So she quit, it would be like , you know,, like tough to win...cause you know, like Trump is mean.

Stop blaming Trump. It’s your psycho party that’s causing all the problems.

Even if a democrat wins that spot, the Democrats will have to sink more resources into New Hampshire than they hoped they would. Less money for them to try to steal the House with.

Thats the funny part. They blame Trump when the current economy is all Pedo Joe’s doing. And then instead of staying to fight they quit. We have a chance to pick up some seats in Senate which would help limit the RINO’s a bit.

By this, she obviously means because he's so popular. Right?

Trump is doing such a bad job that she doesn't think she could beat his candidate?
Amazing
Amazing

Sometimes I think stepping down is more like bending the knee and bowing out so your rocks don’t get turned over. Works for both aisles.

Maybe because he has a team turning over stones.

I knew she was going to lay some shite on Trump... These democrats just can't admit they screwed as a party... With Van Hollen dropping everything to fly down to see that POS was okay in the jail was just the cherry on top... Van Hollen ignoring the mother of Rachel Morin was just despicable... I hope Van Hollen never sees political life ever...

Exactly. She as a Senator passed the big spending bills that inflated our economy. Yes, Pubs did too. But she is as much at fault as anyone.

Announced weeks ago, certainly isn’t new. Sununu has already declined to run and Democrats are likely going to keep the seat.

If this bitch wet-farted her panties, it would be Trump's fault.
We need that old gif rebooted, the guy spills his bowl of snacks and blames Obama, but rebooted to blame Trump. I don't have the skills, hopefully one of you do.

Good point.
And at 25%is approval rating, the party has to rely mainly on the big donors (although i admit there is little hortage of money there)

They don’t want to be there any more because DOGE cut all money they were stealing from Main Street

If you listen to posters on here like Rogerthenutscrubber and SFP, they'll say Trump is closer to being a Democrat than a Republican and yet the Democrats blame all their ills on him. Strange. One group has to be wrong.

How is it a tough national map if Trump is going to ruin the economy as they say? Could it be other reasons?
Does she think she’s going to lose to a leftist schizo in the primaries?
Does she think she’s not going to be able to win now that fake voter rolls are being thrown out and their illegal vote sources are being deported?
Does she realize her party is so bat shite insane that they’re not even going to be able to win back the Senate, even if we are knee deep in a worst case scenario?
Why would that be?
Also.. real hilarious that these posh hucksters decide to run away when the tough gets going. I thought she was a public servant who was supposed to fight for her country and constituents? What happened to that calling? Oh that’s right, their money laundering scheme is being rooted out, so the plundering rootless deadbeats want nothing to do with “public service” anymore.
It’s just so disgusting that these people are just going to be allowed to walk away from this and not spend a single day in jail.

Sununu came out a week ago and said he won't run for that Senate seat. I think he has his eyes on a bigger prize.
