I have a work trip coming up this summer and I'm going to have a weekend in the middle. I can spend it in Singapore or Thailand. Which one would you choose and why?

TIA

If you like cosmopolitan cities and all that go with them, go to Singapore.

If you want to feel like you’re in SE Asia go to a beach and eat good food, maybe party a bit, go to Thailand.

I’ve been to both…

You can do Singapore in a day… Pretty cool to see how master planned it is, but outside of that, it’s a city and not a whole lot of touristy things to do. The Changi airport is stunning though.

I’d do Bangkok or if you want to be on the go, fly in and do a day in Singapore then take the 45 min flight over to Kuala Lumpur and see the Patronas Towers

I'm definitely hitting both. Just a question of where to spend the weekend. Sounds like Thailand is the answer. Thanks guys.

I can recommend Phuket, specifically Kata Beach.

Krabi (on the mainland) is also cool. Have stayed both separate trips. Krabi is a better location to hire a boat and see some cool stuff.

Depends what you want out of SG, because you definitely can't eat and drink your way through in a day.

There's also great walking outside of the downtown core, including the Southern Ridges and Botanical gardens.

So, again, I guess it depends what you hope to get from SG. For me, ~4 days is fine but I can understand why it would be much less if you aren't really extending yourself past Chinatown and Marina Bay.

Petronas Towers are worth seeing, especially at night. KL is an impressive city.

My wife has extended and immediate family in both places, so been a few times (including last month). I love visiting and it's a nice escape from Chicago in the colder months.

I agree with this. You can see the marina bay sands area in a day but there’s alot more to Singapore than just that area.

Thailand. Remember the things you do in Thailand would get you locked up in Singpore for a long time.

If you go to Phuket and some of the nicer beaches you will be surrounded by people from Singapore, most that can leave are buying high end property in Thailand.

Bangkok 100%.

It has an aura about it. Loved it.

Agreed. We did an extended weekend in Singapore and took a day trip to KL(the Petronas Towers are impressive), the next day we took a short ferry to Batam Indonesia. Singapore is by far the safest cleanest place I have ever been. Not knocking Thai, just depends what you want.

I lived in Singapore for six months back in 2016

It’s a different vibe than Thailand

But if I had to choose, I would do Thailand, you can get countryside villages with food that will change your life and a big city experience like something in Bangkok, the nightlife is outstanding, lots of amazing rooftop bars, and upscale hotels which are very affordable. The street food scene in Bangkok is one of the best in the world
