We usually go to Isla Mujeres, but was looking at Tulum this trip. Never been just wanted to get some recommendations and see if it’s worth trying over Isla?
Thanks!

Tulum is more crowded but it's a nice place if you have never been. Balacar is the new gem i tell people in QR looking to get away from the crowds.
Very remote beach towns down that way too.

Tulum has ruins on the water which is spectacular.
I'm an Isla lover though. I'm trying to get a condo on the island before it's insane. Though renting airbnb works for now.

Isla is great. It gets old for me though being stuck on a small island.

I love Tulum. Bit biased since I have a house there. But we go, relax, ride around in ATVs, and enjoy the half naked European everywhere. It's definitely a unique vibe but we always have a great time.

Definitely a different vibe from ISLA, I would not say it’s better or worse

Definitely more upscale, and on the newer end of things

Took a trip to Tulum a couple of weeks ago with the family (kids 11 & 14) and had a great time. Stayed at two separate hotels just north of town and really enjoyed both. Rented a car as suggested by Ocean and another member here and had some great meals. Drove out to Coba early one morning and the ruins were way cooler than I expected. There are also some beautiful and less crowded cenotes in the Coba area. Let me know if you want any recs. We will definitely be going back.

No, they don't allow people onto the ruins/pyramids anymore.
