Been taking lessons from a teacher/fitter. He’s a top 50 callaway club fitter but doesn’t push Callaway. In fact he fitted me for a ping g440 lst. I took lessons with him as well. Really helped improve my swing but he had mentioned that when I’m ready to get out of my zx7’s and get into a more forgiving iron he said to let him know. He said he doesn’t fit anyone into a players iron except for a select few. He doesn’t even play them. I’ve been thinking about it and I’m interested to see the difference. I love my zx7’s but going to test some game improvement irons. He said a lot of people are loving the new elyte irons. It’s what he’s hitting as well.

Two close to + handicaps I knew in college played game improvements.

There opinion was I want all the help I can get and I want it easier, the game is already hard enough.

I’ve been looking at a set of zx7s.

If you like the ZX7s you need to try the ZX5s.
Some to look at are P790s, Titleist T-Series, Muzuno JPX series. I was recently fitted into Callaway Apex AI300s and love them.

LSUfreak1459, it sounds like you went with the Callaway Elytes over the Ping 440s. Is that correct?

And who is the teacher/fitter who helped you decide? I’m looking for a fitter right now, and those are the two main irons I’m considering.

I went with the core model Elyte. The more I hit them the more I love them. I really like how compact they are. They look like a players iron but so forgiving. But you can also work them however you want.

Thomas Wartelle out of Lafayette. He knows his stuff. I’ve always been a good iron player but I have never hit my irons like I can now. I took three lessons. Plan on taking more for short game but don’t have the time right now.

Is Wardell a good fitter? Does he still do it at LT?

Wartelle is great. He really knows his stuff. He was at LT. In the fall he went to the Farm but he, another coach and the pro all left. He now his own indoor facility in Lafayette.
