Sources: Iowa is set to dismiss basketball coach Fran McCaffery after 15 seasons. He reached seven NCAA tournaments in his 15 years and is the school’s all-time leader in wins with 297. Iowa finished 17-16 this year.

Had some good squads and some great tantrums .

2nd B10 coach to get the axe this week (Ben Johnson of Minnesota)

You want a 65 year old guy who never made the sweet 16, and made the tournament 7 times in a 15 year tenure?

McMahon’s resume before going to LSU was comparable to that.

I don't want him but winning in the Big Ten and winning in the OVC is not comparable.

It was time. He did pretty good for us, had some epic sideline meltdowns, brought us back from a very down period in the early 2010s. Had a NPOY and 2 1st round picks and couldn't get to the Sweet 16. Iowa is not good with NIL for basketball, should be interesting to see what direction we go. Devries from West Virginia and McCollum from Drake are the front runners.

Please don't take Devries. What he has done in his first year at WVU without his best player for most of the season and a very short bench has been nothing short of amazing.

From Iowa isn't he? Not an Iowa alum but from the state. Would be a great pickup.

He is from Iowa. Played at UNI, but he is a Hawkeye though. His brother was an All-American DT in football in the 90s for the Hawkeyes and played 10 years in the NFL. Iowa is his dream job. Sucks for West Virginia to probably lose him after 1 year, but that is the way the business is now. Iowa lost Lute Olson to Arizona in the early 80s when AZ was a bad program.

I was on Iowa's message board earlier and someone made a poll of who they wanted. McCollum dominated the votes. Not much love for Devries, so your fans don't deserve him. I'm going to email that poll to him.

Looks like McCollum to Indiana is going on. Will be an interesting next few weeks in the college basketball coaching carousel. I have seen that reportedly Indiana has also reached out to Devries...

Eh, early in his Iowa tenure sure... since the covid season he has gotten only a handful of technical fouls including yesterday, so he has toned it down
. From what I hear is off the court Fran is kind of standoffish to strangers but if he knows you he is a genuinely nice guy but he does come off as arrogant and nerdish to me, he is Ivy league educated and will let you know that. In my opinion it was time for both parties to move on.

i think LSU needs to at least keep their guy 1 more year. some Missouri fans wanted gates on the hot seat after last season.

Guys need 4 1/2 years to bring in their people and fix the roster hot messes. especially if he had to bring in transfers and stuff. Leads to a mess of a roster. If roster was a hot mess, and i remember when their HC got ran off, LSU lost a lot of players, replacing them and getting roster stability takes at least 3 years.
