Needs for 2010 Recruiting Class...

At the risk of talking about something other than Dex Pratt or Randle, let's have an exercise in prognostication. For the sake of argument let's say LSU does not get Randle, Myles, or Montgomery and finishes with Mingo, Logan, and Tahj Jones.
We'll guesstimate 20 available schollies next year. What positions do those schollies go to...
My guess is...
RB: (2) Preferably one scatback, spread guy (Seastrunk) and another all-purpose big back.
WR: (2) One wide-out and one slot guy.
TE: (1) I say we need one even though I think we end up with two (Jacobs and Dickson)
OT: (3) Maybe the #1 need for this class
OG/C: (3) Preferably 2 guys that can play center.
WDE: (1) The second most important position in this class if we don't land Montgomery this year (not necessarily for depth but for a game-changer).
DT: (2) With Woods gone and Nevis a senior, this position will need depth behind Davenport, Downs, and Hagans.
OLB: (1) Riley will be gone, but there will be some young depth. It's important to get a stud here though... maybe Maclin.
MLB: (2) With Minter and Theriot finishing up their frosh and RS frosh seasons, that makes two young exciting players but one injury away from disaster.
CB: (2) Hopefully one future lockdown guy (Peterson may feel ready for the league after year 3) and maybe a nickelback. Adrian White would be great here.
S: (1) With Johns already counting toward this class, we need to add a FS. Toney Hurd, Jr?
There are still other guys that don't fit into my projection, but will likely be a take regardless (example: Jordan Allen at SDE). I think this adds to 20.

quote:Hurd=CB 5-9/165/4.50. He played safety for his HS this year I think, but hes a CB and to small for FS.

Yeah, I know he's smallish, but I just see him more as a safety in terms of style. I'm not sure that he has the speed/ballskills to play CB, but I do certainly see your point.
Remember... Reggie Nelson was a smallish safety (granted he was faster than Hurd, but...

we definitely need a big time pass rusher. I wish I could believe montgomery's interest was genuine.
after that I'd agree we need a some depth at T and DT

Yeah, my opinion on the subject is probably pretty well known. This kid has an almost limitless potential, and he's only played football for a few years.
I'd love to see Montgomery in P&G, but I think Butch Davis will lock him in a white room and force him to watch hours of Julius Peppers film.

We were front runner for Calhoun(OT from Navasota)next season, but with Pratt not coming its probably unlikely now. He would've been a nice pickup. 6'5" 320ish I think.

Try 6'7" if I remember correctly.

sad thing is I know he's going to name us favorites after his visit and everyone is going to get their hopes up. Then flip their shite and call this class a disappointment when he does the expected thing and picks unc

Prom may not survive another one of these.

He stated before that he wasn't high on LSU.

I'm no lynxcat so I haven't even begun to look at 2010 prospects

I will never be able understand what goes on in these people's heads when they say something like that. My head may indeed explode.

Seastrunk and Lattimore would be ideal

What about Reid and Vinson?

I heard that Maclin is USCw all the way if they offer

Jeffcoat and Allen would be amazing
