The pins and passwords to her phone, iPad, and MacBook are unknown. No passwords or pin s to be found written anywhere. Devices fairly new. Any hope of accessing devices, not really concerned about what is on them.

Easiest option, she named you as a legacy contact to the account holder, you need a death certificate and contact Apple. You would know this by if you got a access key from her when she did it.

If she didn't name you as a legacy contact in her account, it takes a court order. Have fun...

A court order is the only way.

Do not trust ANY other way (especially any paid service) to get into an Apple Device without the password. They are all scams.

I am executer of the estate, doubt she even assigned legacy status.

I have my mother's phone. She has dementia. My oldest sister changed my mother's power of attorney and will after her dementia diagnosis. She also changed her phone's PIN code.

It is a disaster, albeit the phone is the least of my worries.

This is a good reminder to everyone, enter legacy contacts into your smart phones.

I found a way to force reset an OSX password once...let me see if I still have the steps.

AppleID is going to bite you in the arse though.

My dad passed away and I was going to give his ipad and iphone to my niece. The Apple store wiped everything, but due to Apple ID they are basically worthless.

They told me I could go through Apple using my power of attorney and all of the death documentation to get the phone wiped. At that point it was too much trouble for two used devices and we didn't care what was on them. It was a couple of years ago now and I may have some of the details off a little.

I know someone had the same issue a few years ago. They hired an attorney and was able to get the new POA reversed. In this case it was clear the person didn't have the mental capacity to understand what they were signing. As I understand it just being diagnosed doesn't mean they are incapable of making legal decisions.

I appreciate your comment. I am the year 3 of trying to have my mom interdicted. The 19th Judicial Court in Baton Rouge is an absolute joke.

OSX Password Reset.

YouTube Vid

Once you get access to the machine, having access to her email account will help with AppleID reset. Still gonna be some hurdles as you'll need answer to security questions - but hopefully they are logical and you can get through it.
