Area 6 public
34° NE wind
Mathews phase 4

In my saddle, on a ridge I hunted a good bit this year. It’s been a great season, spent a bunch of time in the woods, killed 2 decent bucks, and was able to put my brother and buddy on some nice bucks. Sad it’s coming to an end, but it’s not over yet. Staying in the woods all day unless I kill this morning. I’ll shoot a doe today. I want to be able to say I killed one on February 17th.

Is today the last day? I make my home in Area 6 and have kicked around some public down here but not much luck.

This year it is. Our season runs from October 1st-February 15th, but due to the snow days, LDWF extended the season 2 days. I’ve never seen this happen, and may never see it again. So I think it would be awesome to kill something today.

Never been, but I’ve heard if you can deal with the palmettos, there’s some studs in there to be killed.

Thanks. Didn’t see anything this morning. Moving to a different spot for the last sit until October

Good luck.

Went yesterday and saw three does towards the end of shooting light. Closest they were was about 45 yards.

That wind was brutal.

We ended our season yesterday on a good note. Took my 9 year old son to fill 1 more dmap doe tag for our quota and he ended up with a hog and a big 5.5 year old 7 point.

Man that’s awesome! Congrats! It’s like those big, old bucks have the last day of the season marked on a calendar. The extension must have thrown him for a loop lol
Last year I had a camera out where I’m hunting this evening. Had a few deer coming through, but nothing special. On February 16th, I had what I consider a giant buck show up on it.

There’s a deep slough I have to cross to get back here. Wore my waders and carried my boots. The water went over my waders. The only dry clothes I had were my bibs and jacket in my pack, so I changed, put my wet feet into my dry knee boots and got set up. I killed a good buck earlier this season with wet feet, so hopefully that’s the ticket

Thistlewaitte has some great genes....I love that place, but so does everyone else....too crowded for me.

I have seen some monster bucks come out of that swamp!
