Lake Charles crime

Shots fired at a house not a few hundred yards down my road the other night. Heard it from my couch. Also a fatal stabbing at an apartment complex and yet another police chase in the city. All over the weekend. Wonder what the crime-to-population comparison would be between Lake Charles and Baton Rouge? Truly pathetic what society has become.

What part of town do you live in

Between McNeese campus and LaGrange High School. Just south of I-210. Nice quiet neighborhood as recently as 2017 when we bought the house. McNeese Stadium and Legacy Center about a mile south of my house. Can listen to home softball games and McNeese band practice from my house.

That area has been on a downward slide for a few years with little patches holding on here and there.

Yep. Lived just east of Louisiana Avenue for years, then it went to crap. Bought this house just west of Louisiana Avenue as this area was "better." Shooters fled to those apartments south of us by where Moss Regional used to be. A few were caught last night within a few hours. Quite literally getting too closed to home tho.

Unfortunately infiltrating many parts of town that were once considered safe.

Cactus drive and the State streets area has been sketchy for a good while. Seems it’s been drifting west for a few years.

Will Wade has lost control of LC

One way to reduce crime in Lake Charles would be to have SFP represent everyone who gets arrested so they get sent to jail for a long time.

Back in the 90s that area was ok. Lots of older folks who kept to themselves. Wife had an uncle who lived there unfortunately now not as quiet.

Sounds like every city in Louisiana

My biggest complaint is all the yutes leaving Caddyshack and driving their loud arse trucks up ans down Lake St every weekend night.
That place is going to get someone killed.

Don’t worry. The LC police chief is taking concrete steps to effectively fight crime. Diversity is our greatest strength!

That area should be fine. Lake Charles is actually set up great logistically compared to a lot of places, with the loop and the school and everything, but it seems like people only want to build way south of everything. At least that’s my perception, but haven’t lived there in a long time.
Is it just white flight? If so, that’s a damn shame and that area needs to be gentrified.

Cactus/State was sketchy before I moved from Lake Chuck to BTR in 2000. Sketchy like east of 2nd Ave and along 12th Street did in the 1980's. The problem in my childhood neighborhood began in the 1980's when older couples died or moved away in retirement and their former homes became rental property. On my parents' former home the neighborhood got better in the late 90's as black plant workers bought these homes and the yards became better maintained. It was a good neighborhood in the 1970's and before. State supreme court justice neighbor, engineers, CPA's and business owners all lived in the neighborhood.

Federal housing programs are nothing more than a way to force whitey to build or buy new houses. The real estate and construction industries are basically propped up by “affordable housing” regulations.

LC is lower. Much lower.

I mean dude, Moss Regional is a red flag.
Those apartments have been trash to ghetto for 20 years now. I had friends stay there as the cheap option when they were in McNeese literally 20 years ago.
That area also isn't far from the worst part of LC (Oak Park to Car Shop). 5th Avenue in particular is a beacon for crime. North Lake Charles isn't really that bad anymore.
