Did Remington quit making the 870? Every where I look online says they are sold out or not available. I’m in the market for a youth or compact 870 in 20ga. but it looks like I may have to start looking at pawn shops.

Go with it. I was an 870 guy my whole life. Got a mossberg since 870s were like hens teeth. Totally happy with it, and to be honest I like it more than my 870's.

Which model did you go with? I did buy a Winchester SXP 20 gauge this week and I’m not really in love with it. It’s the bottomland camo edition but it has a 28” barrel. Looking for something a little more compact. Thought about just buying a new barrel but I can’t find one online either.

590, so not the same thing. I know a few guys who have the regular and youth 500's though and they all like them. I'll be getting myself one next, since my old 870 has gotten unreliable after 40 years of absolute hell.

I've been looking for one, too. Need a new squirrel gun. Idk if I'm willing to pay that much for a pump shotgun I'm going to beat the hell out of. Might get the Winchester sxp.

Could you get it cut down or would that mess up being able to use chokes?

I think it will mess up the choke. It swells up on the end of the barrel and I don’t know if it could be rethreaded

Look at a 500 super bantam in 20ga. It’s a youth gun so very compact, mine is less than 6lbs with a sling. RemArms hasn’t been able to keep up, guessing they’re not trying to repeat their same mistakes.
