I didn't know one had come out until scrolling through prime. Looks like it has the same directors as The Three Musketeers that came out a year or two ago that was pretty well made.

Not arguing that, I rewatched it not long ago and it holds up great

Yes I’ve seen it. It’s a mixed bag if you are a big fan of the novel. Lots of changes but probably necessary to fit the story into a film. But, it’s very well made, beautifully shot and the acting is very solid. Miles better than the latest version before this one (as far as trying to make the film adhere more closely with the novel). Definitely worth a watch.

had a flight last week and knocked this out on the plane. Really enjoyed it.
YEARS ago I read the book and loved it so while it was still fresh I watched the movie, the one from the 2002 with jim caveziel. That was so long ago that I couldn't begin to tell you the reasons, but I remember not liking it much at all. Maybe it strayed from the book, maybe the acting just wasn't there...I don't know.
But this new one from 2024 was awesome. Loved the acting, pacing, etc. The only thing I can rememebr specifcially that's wildly differnet is the lack of luigi vampa, as that whole storyline was absent from the movie. But it didn't feel like it detracted either.

There was a french version mini series from the late 90's I watched years ago, it was pretty faithful to the book. Had a hard time enjoying it though because the lead actors nose was so big that it was just completely distracting

I almost bumped a completely different Monte Cristo thread until I saw this one. I finished my first read of the book and wanted to check out the film adaptations.
I’m looking forward to watching this new version because the 2002 version was complete dogshit. Barely resembled the book other than the time on the island. The whole premise of the story was he was wrongfully imprisoned, but in the movie Edmund gets the letter from Napoleon himself. He knew what he was doing. Making Albert his son and reuniting with Mercedes was just salt in the wound. Luis Guzman? Wtf.
In addition to the 2024 film, there is also a French/Italian miniseries that came out last year starring Jeremy Irons as Abbe Faria. I was a bit surprised all the dialogue is in English. I’ve watched the first episode and it is already more accurate to the book than that 2002 abomination. Unfortunately it is only available to watch through unethical means until it gets a US release.
