Spotrac recently released their projected price tag for Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Donte Jackson, and it’s rather hefty. Spotrac has Jackson’s contract value at two years, $23.1 million.

Jackson is among the Steelers’ 24 players set to become free agents this offseason.

Jackson recorded a career-high five interceptions in 2024, which ranked sixth in the NFL, along with 38 tackles (28 solo), one fumble recovery and eight passes defended. On the surface, the numbers are solid, but he struggled down the stretch in coverage. It should be noted, however, that he was dealing with a nagging back injury.

“Another free agency coming up. Just grateful to be in this spot, to be able to sign a third contract. Because man, guys don’t get to two. It’s a blessing just to be able to set myself up to sign three is awesome. Huge opportunity for me and my family. We hope we’re back. We love it, but business is business.”

The Steelers acquired Jackson in a trade that send wide receiver Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers in March. It was a move that was highly criticized at the time, but it seems to have aged quite well since.

Except for when he blew the rescheduled Florida game and the Citrus Bowl vs. Notre Dame. I was PISSED when he had that pick 2 vs. Brees in that Monday night game. Why couldn’t he ever do that when LSU needed it?

Any defensive back is going to struggle under Mike Tomlin. Big Ben just talked about this at length because of what Julian Edelman said about Tomlin never changing anything and playing the exact same defense he has for 15 years since Dick LeBeau left. Said he would catch 9 catches vs the Steelers.

LeBeau was multiple and mixed up defenses. Tomlin ran him out, so he could be the de facto DC and has been since LeBeau left. Tomlin is hard headed and calls a defense like Les Miles did his offenses the last few years here. Donte Jackson did well considering.

I seem to recall him getting a huge INT vs A&M in 2015 and also balled out in the comeback win vs Auburn in 2017. Donte was light years better than any CB we’ve had here since Stingley.

I never thought he was that great at LSU, but then after the last few years, he would be a superstar. LOL

Good for him getting paid.
