weekend at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales.
I'm sure we'll see some awesome matches with Jesuit, Brother Martin, Catholic, Teurlings Catholic, St Thomas More, Holy Cross, North Desoto, St Paul's, Dutchtown and Rummel leading the way.
Looks like they're expecting about 60 teams...
Should be a great weekend of wrestling.

Any of these schools recruited those Russian wrestlers from Dagestan

Wrestling should be a varsity sport at every high school in the country.
It is the only sport that is truly all-inclusive in relation to a kid's size. 5'3 and 102 lbs? No problem, we need you.

Yep...
and every school's football program should push their big boys to wrestle after the season is over, especially their defensive players. It would teach them how to tackle properly.

NFL Films did a nice job explaining exactly this. NFL copyright wouldnt let me embed the video

We have the best 106 in the state… and a pretty good one at 150 too

Yeah y’all do. Kahla and Caruso
The Northshore can handle its own in the lower weights with St. Paul’s, Fontainebleau, and Lakeshore. Also a couple of the higher weights at St. Paul’s are very good.

Ya’ll do..
It will be between him, Kahla, and Will Fontenot from Brother Martin. Edit: I left out Zane Blanchard from Southside out, He will be in thorn in Kahla's side.
Even Jagger Martinez, an 8th grader at St Paul’s, and Eli Vincent from Catholic will be in the top 4 in D1.
Only possible guarantees at a state championship are Rozas at 120 from Teurlings in D 2, Clementi at 144 with Brother Martin in D1, Harris at 126 from Jesuit in D1, Kaiden Triche at 132 and Landon Modica at 113 both from Rummel in D2 all returning state champs.

I agree 100% ... there were 35-40 teams from LA competing @ Lee High in the mid 80's ... 5-6 teams were from Texas and the Mid-West ... 600+ wrestlers combined. Many considered it the premier wrestling tournament in Louisiana. I won 6 tournaments including the State championship during my HS wrestling career yet never won the Lee High Invitational. I remember wrestling vs. Victor Jones Zachary HS (LSU RB) as he was strong and fast like a cat. He won State the year after me

Wonder if Gilroy is coming back this year to run away with it again.
Edit - Just checked the teams on trackwrestling and I don't see Gilroy on the list.

My bad. I try to keep up. Y’all had some studs last year as well.

They're not, but there's Cathedral Catholic out of California, Houston Strake Jesuit out of Texas and Midwest City out of Oklahoma will be in it.
Crazy, each weight class averages about 94 wrestlers. My guess it will change as it gets closer to the tournament.

Was hoping our 106 would make the finals at the public state championships to see where we are against y'all's, who I know is very good. But we got pinned in semis after leading the whole match. Our little school is taking 5 guys to the Classic. 106, 126, 175, 190, 285.
Our heavyweight may make the podium.
I’m from Basile and pretty involved in the program. We have a good team for DIII but this tournament is obviously a different animal. Looking forward to it.

I remember that tournament well. Not that I wrestled but I graduated from Lee in ‘84. It was a huge deal there.

DI public schools should do fairly well between you guys, Dutchtown, EA, among others (fairly well meaning possibly top 10 in team scores).
We can’t compete as a team but have had individual champions. Most recently in 2023, Luc Johnson at 152 lbs. And Gavin Christ a lighter weight a few years earlier won it twice in ‘18 and ‘19.
It’s the ultimate Louisiana bragging rights tournament.

I miss wrestling, my son wrestled for Parkway and graduated in 2020. He won State his Senior year at 126lbs in DI against a Brother Martin kid 7-2. Missed the podium his Freshman year, came in 3rd his Sophomore and 2nd his Junior year at 106 so he got better every year. It's such a good sport, there is no preferential treatment or subjectivity in it, you're either good enough to be varsity or you're not. If a kid thinks he can beat out the varsity kid for his spot, you have to prove it, mom and dad can't give enough money to the program to overcome that.
