Is there anyone left that still believes Zion isn't a lost cause?

I've made a variation of this thread each of the last three seasons or so and it's been interesting how the minority and majority opinions have flipped on this topic to the point where I'm curious if there is anyone left that still likes the child.

If he wasn't so injury prone, it would probably be tolerable. But if you combine it with everything else that he is, it's really hard to believe that he'll put it all together here.

He'll probably get his shite together somewhere else where he'll be held accountable and that organization won't play his games, but it's definitely too late here.

I do wonder how he would do with a hard arse coach riding him. But I'm not really expecting much to change at this point. He is who he is and we are stuck on that NBA roller coaster where his value is too low to trade him, and as soon as he plays well enough to raise his trade value he'll be too valuable to trade.

So this will probably end the way all star relationships seem to end, with a "I didn't ask for a trade" trade demand when his contract is short enough to force his way out.

I get why, as Pelicans fans, we are all fatalistic, but I just don't see it.

This is beyond a franchise lacking the fortitude to hold someone accountable. Dude was coddled all his life through college and it was fine because he was an athletic freak so he didn't need direction to dominate.

NBA is different though, athleticism only gets you so much... and it doesn't help that Zion not giving a shite about his body zapped a lot of his athleticism.

I just remember when Zion did JJ's podcast during his rookie season and he was talking about how he was shocked to see scrubs like E'twaun dominate him in practice... dude had no idea what professional life was going to be a about. It was the first real time he faced adversity in basketball (and maybe in life idk) and he shied the frick away from it instead of taking on the challenge.

I don’t dislike him.

I actually rather do like him and wish this season would have gone completely different. I don’t know what the problem is.

If he gets traded away, I’d only hate him if on Lakers.

His whole career contribution just showed so much promise but ultimately sucked.

‘Disappointed’ is my best word to describe how I feel.

He will put up MVP numbers the rest of this season and he will raise his trade value. I was hoping NO would move him this year (and I assume he feels the same) but he can't stay on the court long enough for another team to evaluate him.

If he's playing 32+ minutes this year, he will average 27+. He's in the best shape he's been in since year 2 and it's the first time his kid section looked slim in a long time. His numbers and defensive impact will show this for the rest of this season.

I’ve met him. I’ve talked to him. I’ve seen and we’ve watched what he can do for us (or will be capable of doing for next team). He’s had real legit injuries when playing at his prime here. We/he can’t seem to avoid them over the years, and yes they’ve defeated us fans who truly give a shite and had our hopes up. I wanted it to work out. We all did.

Lost cause? Yeah probably at this point

Again … one word… I’m ‘disappointed’

If there is one thing Zion is elite at, it's saying the right things into a microphone or in a public setting.

Alright broski… I don’t really care what he has to say on a microphone in general. That’s not my point. I like the person I met and talked to. Separate from the game and roster and expectations. I also really liked Melvin Ely.

Maybe I’m too nice

But all my opinions are summarized in earlier posts.

Edit: I care about his performance and availability. And it’s not looking good. That’s only thing that matters. I’m not defending him in any way.

Same. I just want to see the dude hoop regardless of his off the court issues. I'm well aware of the immaturity, but this wasn't an issue at Duke. I really think it's an intentional way to turn off the team from him.

I like to watch him play but he's a retarded zoomer who makes bad decisions at the end of the day. Maybe he'll grow up on another team - our luck.

I'd slow our roll a little bit. Not much of this kind of talk last year when he played 70 games for the Pels. He was having a great game, dominating the Lakers and LeBron in the play in when his hamstring flared up.

Fine if you want to say enough is enough with his injuries, but I thought he played hard for us most of last year and came into this year in pretty good shape. I think he's a bit of an unreliable goof ball, but that doesn't make him a malicious prick. If he doesn't get hurt, the rest of this stuff seems like small brew. So focus on trying to keep him healthy. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. But I'd give it at least one more try...

For some reason this always catches my attention. Zion has never put up MVP level numbers. In his best year, he averaged 27/7/4. Thats a great year. For context, this year Jokic is averaging 32/13/10. He's not even guaranteed the award due to voter fatigue. But that's MVP level numbers currently. That's how much further he'd have to go..

Jokic is an anomaly. Year 2 Zion had a better season than year 2 Wemby is right now and Wemby would be an MVP candidate if the Spurs were a better team. 29/8/6 on 62"% is EASILY MVP numbers if you are a top 3 team.

What he has over his peers is his FG%, although Jokics and Giannis are also ridiculous in that category now.
