Going to a wedding in Split, Croatia later this year for a family friend. Will be there for a week or so, but since we are already so far from home, we want to make another Euro stop. Thinking France countryside or bouncing around Germany.

How do you go about booking flights? Getting to Split will probably be 3 flights (starting from NOLA) with the connection locations not mattering. But if we want French countryside, we would have to get to Geneva and drive. But will
I need to make sure we get back to the same major hub we arrived to Europe in? Or how can I get another major hub to leave Europe from? Is it a bunch of one way flights and not book anything as round trip? Just looking for advice.

You can fly "open-jaw" or "multi-city" into one euro city and back home from another. We do this all the time. Google Flights has a "multi-city" option thats lets you put in a departure city different from your arrival city. You can use google flights to book split to wherever in europe.

Since you're in Croatia, look at Slovenia. It's amazingly beautiful and next door to croatia.

Book a round trip ticket to/from Paris CDG on the domestic airline of your choice. Then book a direct round trip ticket on EasyJet (budget airline) from CDG to Split. You can chose to rent a car at CDG and explore the French countryside before or after the wedding. If you do the France portion after then make sure the CDG- Split times on EasyJet allow plenty of time to clear customs, collect luggage and check back in)

Another option would be - round trip ticket to Venice. Spend 2 days in Venice. Then take the bus to Ljubljana for two nights with a day trip to Lake Bled. Then train to Zagreb for one day. Then take the shuttle bus (or group tour) to Split that stops at Plitvice Lakes National Park on the way down. After the wedding you can fly back to Venice or proceed down to Dubrovnik. Or do all of that in reverse.

Have you explored anll of Croatia, northern Italy, Slovenia, etc? I’d strongly consider staying in that region personally, just to save time and hassle. Northern Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Bavaria, etc are all really close. Can hope a train or two and be there.

Cheap flights within Europe are fairly easy also, fwiw.

We flew EasyJet from Rome to Dubrovnik and from Split back to Naples a few years ago. They were cheap/on time and fly all over Europe. We have used it for flights in Northern Europe too.

You should also check out Spanish carrier Vueling to see if it flies out of Split. It flies into smaller airports in major cities (like Orly in Paris).

Look at all locations in Europe that fly direct to your home airport. For MSY I believe the only option is London, but if you're okay with a connection in Atlanta then your options increase significantly. Then look at all the European cities that fly direct from Split. Research the common ones and go from there. Chat GPT can do this for you btw
