I came here to post this. I've long felt that Apple was overvalued by latte-sipping San Francisco Mac-head lemmings who bought into the Jobs cult of personality and believed he could do no wrong. If it plummets to 50 or so, which is not out of the question, I'm going long.

Also, if apple gets to 50 that would be off of a high of 199 a little more than a year ago.

And I know people who invested heavily in Apple a little more than a year ago.

Probably yes imo.

They always do these announcements after hours. I understand why, but shite! Oh, well I just had a very small position in Apple.

If it gets to 50 I bet it goes to the 30's.

Sheesh.

I'm glad I sold my AAPL stock yesterday at $89. Bought at $88. Made about $40 total. Woohoo!

This is not at all surprising...I'm no oncologist, but it doesn't take much reading between the lines to know that this was more than a "hormone imbalance".

I hope the time off does him well.

This is an interesting question...

Does Jobs have an obligation to make his health records/status a matter of public information?

I say no. The author obviously disagrees.

I understand that may make it more difficult for investors, but I think patient privacy re: health matters trumps all. JMO.

Wasn't there a time recently where he went away for a while and the company did not do well at all?

Ty, although I prefer to be called "Cous" or, alternately, "CCC" if you must.

True, but I do think Apple had the responsibility to not actively mislead people. I think they flat-out lied about Jobs' health for the sole reason of keeping their stock price inflated.

He never said he was a-ok. He admitted he had a hormone imbalance but said the treatment was primarily a change in diet. Unless we find out that he dumped stock last week I don't see how you'd possibly have any hope of proving that a potentially dying man lied to investors for a temporary boost in the stock price.

it's an interesting question. I'll be curious to see where a court says the line is between health privacy (after all, privacy is in the constitution) and relevant information about a publicly traded company.

If he had dumped it you would know, because he would have had to file it with the SEC.

It's a unique situation. I really can't think of a single other publicly traded company whose stock price would rise or fall to this extent on news about one man's health. Berkshire, I guess.

FWIW Apple is back above 80. Looks like I overestimated the amount of panic this would cause in the latte-sippers.
