Just starting the planning stage for this summer. Looking for tips and recommendations on how to do it. 3 kids 9-16. I’m going into this blind but will be starting my trip research.
Will be different this year with the Grand Opening of the Epic Universe park.

Save your money go during the off seasons/peak seasons. For any of the park in Orlando.

Definitely spend an entire day at Islands of Adventure. You have to buy a multi-park pass to ride the train from Hogsmeade to Diagon Alley, but Islands is way better than Studios, IMO.
If you don’t do well on motion simulators, you’re not going to be happy with alot of the rides. The HP ride in the castle made me want to puke after 10 seconds. The water rides and roller coasters are outstanding.
If your kids like water parks, check out Volcano Bay.
We stayed at the Hyatt Regency International Drive, but I had points to spend and we were also heading out on a cruise. There are perks to staying at the Universal resorts, but they can be pricey.
We did not buy the Fast Pass and were able to ride everything we wanted to including doing Hagrid’s twice in one day.
I’d definitely take a day off from the parks and chill out and rest.
Costco has great packages that include park tickets. You’ll need 5 days to do all four parks justice.

Universal is amazing. You are going to have a blast. If you stay at a Universal higher end property, it comes with express passes which are a game changer. They are a must for me any time I go.

Stay at the resort with the fast pass as others have stated. Easy access to the rooms and no waits for rides.

It's definitely worth it.

Really recommend this. We stayed at the Royal Pacific in Tower 3 I believe. It took maybe 15 minutes from our room to get into the park via the ferry. Which includes Express pass. Taking the kids again during Mardi Gras.

Express Pass is not included for Sapphire Falls. Only Portofino Bay, Hard Rock, and Royal Pacific have the Express Pass benefit.
And that benefit may not extend to Epic Universe as there has been no confirmation yet from Universal.

Absolutely correct. We stayed at Royal Pacific.

Early indications are that the Express Pass will only be available for purchase at Epic Universe, and will not be included with the hotel. The hotel privileges will still include the other 2 parks

Cannot emphasize this enough. I've always stayed at the Royal Pacific. Private security entrance to the parks, ferry directly to City Walk (or walk if you feel like it), but the value of the free express passes more than pays for the room itself. If I couldn't afford to go and to stay here, then I wouldn't go. The express passes are a game changer.
Your express pass is valid starting the day you check in and through the day you check out as well. So if you get there before check in, you can leave your bags with the front desk and go ahead and hit the parks until your room is ready. Can do the same upon check out if you have a late flight.

And get to parks early. Also go back and state. Stay away from perk times.
