My son turns 18 next week and wants to go duck hunting. Admittedly, I am not an outdoorsman - but he goes fishing with buddies all the time. Where in relation to NOLA is the best place to go duck hunting before the end of the season with a guide? Shell beach / delacroix??? Venice?? Covey Rise?

Thanks for the help.

Late season guide in Venice is about as good as it gets. Just be aware of the splits as Venice is considered West zone so it is closed on January 5 and reopens January 18-31st for the last split before season ends

First time hunting? Squirrel hunting would be a much easier first trip. Hit up any WMA that isn't a swamp.

Also, at 18, he'll need to take Hunter's Ed class

I wouldn't call this a duck hunt. Check with Henning's Guide Service in Thornwell or South Ridge Outfitters near Gueydan. They may have some openings available.

Outstanding place. About as easy as duck hunting gets.

Make sure he gets his hunters safety certification done asap. You can do it all online now, it’ll take him about 4hrs. If you want a real duck hunt, get a guide in Venice. It’ll be a great experience! If you just want to shoot pen raised park mallards go to Covey Rise.

I was a few years older. Was really just interested in Mario Bros, but it came with it, so what the hell. We played it. Was pretty fun but the gun would stick and the laughing dog could really piss you off.

Honey Brake may have some last minute openings. Put you gonna have to pony up for that.

I would also check with Blake at Full Strap and stringer.
