Mardi Gras traffic flow

It will be a nightmare getting around the city during Mardi Gras. Not that I disagree with it but I’m sure any street that comes to to a parade route will be shut down to vehicle traffic.

I mean, maybe the last block of the street, but that pretty much already happens.

They always are.
No bollards though.

As it should be. It's a very temporary inconvenience that anyone with half a brain can avoid with a basic level of planning and thought.

Not really. For example St. Charles Ave is open for traffic heading the opposite direction than the parades.

Are you under the impression that parade routes are not shut down during parades?

No. See my post above yours. There are streets open that run parallel to routes and streets that are open very near where the route passes. I have a feeling that this will not be the case going forward.

People that willingly choose to drive on st Charles like that during parades are idiots

You're talking about hundreds of streets. How will they block them? They are blocked on the route now with metal barricades. If a car can crash through the barricade on the route, why can't they crash through the barricade one block away?

This already happens.

I think you're right. St. Charles will be closed in both directions.
Here's an idea: travel light. If you are from outside the area, bring a wagon or two to carry chairs and coolers. Stop brining ladders, tables, couches, and platforms. You won't need to park as close to the route and more people can enjoy the parades.

This will likely happen, but might increase the number of victims if a vehicle makes it on the street, as there would be no slow-moving cars to get in the way. The lake side of St Charles surely has more pedestrians on big parade days than Bourbon did at 3am.
There's no practical way to harden the whole parade route and block every intersection with a truck-proof barricade, then reopen to traffic right after a parade. Not to mention folks let people pay to park in their driveways. Air bnb's on either side of the the route would make it easy to pre-stage a truck.
If paranoid, I suppose the risk-averse move is to watch on the sidewalk side surrounded by oak trees, but we'll be at our usual spot on the Napoleon neutral ground.

So inconvenient- I wish I could just merge in with the floats for a few blocks
