Favorite pro story, 1990 PGA at Shoal Creek. Rough is brutal, Ray Floyd misses the fairway and it’s right next to me. I’m standing 3 feet from it pointing down at where it disappeared so they can find it.

Caddy has a wedge in his hand, Ray looks at the ball and says “3-wood”, caddie still has the wedge in his hand “hit the wedge”.

Ray says “who’s the fricking pro you or me?”

Caddie hands him the 3 wood, still has the wedge in his other hand. Ray hauls off and swings, ball never appears. After they find it a few feet from where it was, caddie hands him the wedge and he hacks it back to the fairway.

Since I absolutely loathe Ray, I loved it.

That's awesome. I do not like Raymond Floyd at all. He and O'meara are two I cannot stand.

Same tournament, practice round.

Tommy Armour III and Ian Baker-finch and playing with Payne Stewart and Mark O’Meara. I can tell they are playing for something by the conversation, and me and my buddy followed them for most of the Round. On the front 9 either Ian or Tommy birdied every hole, and Payne and Mark didn’t make any. I heard at least 2 press calls.

By the 13th hole there’s a lots of cussing by O’Meara and a lot of grinning by Ian. After they got through I saw Ian when he was walking off I asked him how much they took those boys for. Gave me a big grin “well mate I flew here from Australia and me trip’s paid for.

Ian seems like a real nice guy. TA3 is the epitome of cool.

They were, they were some of the few pros who actually talked to people during the practice round.

watching Chi Chi Rodriguez and Lee Trevino in the 80's at Lakewood CC in NOLA...
sitting on the tee box of a par three was like sitting at a comedy club with Lee and Chi Chi constantly cracking up the crowd...
Lee hits the green then Chi Chi tees it up and ends up in the left rough, turns to buddy sitting next to me and says... "bad lie"...

Trevino told this story on an episode of David Feherty's old golf channel show, but I can't find the video.

quote:

One day, shortly after joining the PGA tour in 1965, Lee Trevino, a professional golfer and married man, was at his home in Dallas, Texas, mowing his front lawn, as he always did. A lady driving by in a big, shiny Cadillac stopped in front of his house, lowered the window and asked, "Excuse me, do you speak English?" Lee responded, "Yes Ma'am, I do." The lady then asked, "What do you charge to do yard work?" Lee said, "Well, the lady in this house lets me sleep with her." The lady hurriedly put the car into gear and sped off.

NLU- Steve Elkington

Hilarious story from Elk about Bubba being a bitch while playing with him and Shigeki Maruyama. Starts at 18:30 if the link doesn't start there. Enjoy
