Brand new, 12 gauge, composite stock, 28” barrel. Thoughts on this shotgun?

It seems to be a nice shotgun, I had looked at one several years ago. Bottom eject was nice, but the pump was really uncomfortable for my arms. Seemed to be too far forward. I bought a Remington 870 12ga Super Magnum instead.

First shotgun I ever owned. Good sugar year. Still have it, killed my first everything flying with it. Never jammed and still shoots like it did when I first got it from my parents in 1989.

They’re heavy, have a pretty long reach with the LOP and pump placement, are a bit of a pain to break down completely for a deep clean, but they are bulletproof and are probably the best made pump gun out there along with Ithaca 37s and old Remington Wingmasters

I have a BPS that shoots 2.75”-3.5” shells and it’s my do everything shotgun. I love it and has never given me any trouble whatsoever. The bottom eject is nice and in some ways the BPS is arguably an improvement on the very proven Ithaca 37 design that it is based on. The BPS uses dual action bars to prevent the action potentially binding up whereas the 37s only had one action bar. The 37s beat it in weight and being more nimble, but they are very similar designs

Got one when I was 16...(now mid 40's) It was my do it all shotgun and was indestructible. I'm tall so the length was great for me. Yes heavier than the autos, yes it will kick more , but damn I have some great memories with that gun!

ETA - the bottom eject is great, because like an over/under can be used either left eye or right eye dominant.

I own (2) 37’s and (1) BPS. All in 12GA.

My oldest son is ready for a shotgun. The problem is I no longer hunt small game like I did when I was growing up. This thread is making me want to get him a BPS in 20GA now.

I’ve got the same gun and I bought it 22yrs ago for the bottom eject (shoot LH).

It’s held up good. Deep cleaning can be a PITA, but I only do that if I drop it in water/mud.

my dad, brother, and myself all own one and hunted with them for many years with out many problems. it would jam up on 3.5" every so often but that was fixed with a swift slam of the buttstock onto the levee to get it to eject. in my case i believe it was jamming because it was over-cleaned. i didnt have problems with it until i started cleaning the internals after every weekend.

The BPS are being discontinued. Browning confirmed that and it’s basically because the BPS cost close to what a decent, middle of the road, semi autos cost (Franchi Affinity, Beretta A300) and most shooters prefer those. There’s still something to be said for a high quality pump though

Also, the BPS likes to be ran hard. Don’t baby it when shucking a shell and it won’t let you down. For a small game or upland only pump gun, I’d probably look to an Ithaca 37, Remington Wingmaster, or even a Mossberg 500 simply for the weight savings and being a little more nimble. For a waterfowl or just a solid, heavy built general use pump, it’s hard to beat the BPS. The heavier weight does help soak up some of the recoil of heavier loads
