So he's officially done. Get well soon. It's officially Gunner's show now

quote:

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck underwent successful surgery Monday on his right elbow to repair his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL), school officials announced, and he will not be available for the Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff.

Beck is expected to make a full recovery, according to the school's release, and he will resume throwing in the spring. The surgery was performed by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. Beck and his parents had been consulting with different doctors and specialists to determine the best course of treatment after he was injured on the final play of the first half in second-ranked Georgia's 22-19 overtime win against Texas in the SEC championship game Dec. 7.

On the last play of the half of the SEC Championship game, while Bama was begging to be let in while resting at home

Conference championship games need to go away.

The real sadness of college football is going to be when a star defensive player on a top 4 gets a questionable targeting call in the second half and have to miss the first half of the playoff game.

They will not go away. Too much money.

I was of that opinion previously, but especially with Beck being out that sentiment will change. The “solution” will be to add more teams to the playoffs (likely moving to, at least, 16) to replace the conference championship games.

I’m not saying I agree with that approach. But that is what will happen. The CFP committee/ADs were already talking about adding MORE teams before the first 12 team CFP was even played

Sadly they add more teams.. imo 8 would have been perfect. Plus beck getting hurt at that time is sad for him and his team. However any player can get hurt on any play in any game. I feel for the kid but this is why you have recruiting and depth on your team.

Adding four more teams and two playoff games would easily compensate for a conference championship game going away. The only one that even sells out (tickets) is the SEC. It won’t happen this year, but I believe conference championship games will be a thing of the past with a decade. Probably much less.

Make conference championships the first round. Pare it down to these eight games by requiring membership in one of eight conferences. No at-large selections, the whole season counts.

UGA probably disagrees.
Regardless of how the playoffs go, they are SEC Champions. Let’s not act like they won games because of Beck

Yes that’s funny, albeit he was not great and had some bad games they won despite him, they are not winning a National Championship with Gunner Stockton.

We'll see.

But the same thing was said about Stetson Bennett.

And Georgia also has the best coach in the game. That seems to be forgotten.

I'm cool with going to 16 teams if it kills the conference championship games. The CCGs are now the worst thing in any major sport - they are so dumb

Stetson because of Covid played almost as many games as bo nix, 6 years I believe. Stockton is just a sophomore seen far less time under center during meaningful minutes. I get it about coaching, defense, etc. but still going to be a tough hill to climb. Against a 12-1 Notre dame team.

Kirby has 24 days to prepare.

And you and others are (again) pumping up ND to be better than they are.
