Boil and Roux has officially closed. And of course they list one of the reasons… racism.

quote:

However, it is important to address the challenges we have faced. We could not withstand a system that, at times, seemed set up for us to fail. As a minority-owned business, we firmly believe that we must be welcomed in this city to serve our community, without being judged by the color of our skin.

I guess being charged rent is racisit now:
quote:

Boil & Roux’s landlord filed for eviction again, claiming that the restaurant failed to pay rent since June 2023. According to court records, rent for Boil & Roux is $6,143.59 due on the 5th of each month.

According to the landowner’s lawyer, Jean-Paul Robert, the two parties agreed to a stipulated judgment in the eviction proceeding in which Boil & Roux agreed to vacate the premises voluntarily on Dec. 31.

“We left all other issues in the case open, as to back rents and all that sort of stuff,” he said. Those issues will be litigated in the future.

Someone needs to bring back Calendars in the location.

I'm pretty sure Bull Chicks is a black owned restaurant a few blocks down the street and does just fine.

Baton Rouge is 54% black. Whites are 34%. Are the owners white?

Maybe their food sucked. Blaming their failure on racism is getting old and an insult to successful minority owned businesses.

Does anyone know why their liquor license was suspended?

Funny seeing the owner say that he was discriminated against because of race and that El Paso across the street was not subject to similar ABC enforcement. What this sounds like is “I broke the law, but they do it too!!” frick this guy. Not because of his skin color, but because he doesn't pay his bills and blames it on race. That shite is so old at this point.

Do you know how bad you have to be at your job to lose your liquor license for your restaurant?

The fact they stayed open for ten years is insane.
