Talk me into/out of Santa bringing a dog for Christmas

My kids want a dog for Christmas but there are a few obstacles that I have to overcome in my mind to make this happen. Please share your thoughts on managing these.
Firstly, there is a zero% chance this dog will ever come inside my house. This would be an outside dog that would at most come into the garage or garage kitchen area. I am not an inside dog person. How do you house an outside dog? It can sleep in the garage or back porch.
We live on 3 acres but have no fencing. Highway nearby. No plans for fencing either. Would one of those invisible fences work? Can I diy?
How do you handle vacations or time away? We don’t vacation much but it is a concern.
Above all, I’m cheap AF and spending money on a dog, other than normal things that are required kid food and housing, aren’t gonna happen. I’m not boarding it for vacation. I’m not paying for $1200 teeth cleanings. Etc….

Let the dog come inside and love it fiercely. It's good for the soul and you seem to be resisting good things.
We have a dog walker in the neighborhood that takes care of our pets when we're away. We also used to take her to vacations a lot because we loved having her.

Sounds like you don’t want a dog. It would better for everyone (dog included) if you didn’t get one.

Oh, I don’t want a dog because my brain works logically and the cons outweigh the pros (for us). But I do a lot of illogical shite to make my wife and kids happy.
That being said, I’d treat it like a king or queen…. Outside.

You and I are 100% on the same page regarding pets. I do not need an animals inside. I don’t care what anyone says, homes with inside animals have a noticeable smell, some worse than others but still.
Growing up we raised a dog outside perfectly fine It seems inside pets just became a thing ~15 yrs ago, people forget it wasn’t the norm, at least not in the country where I grew up up.
Although I don’t have answers to all of your questions: My folks never let our dog step foot in their house the 15 yrs we raised one growing up. They had a chain link cage ~ 20 x 40 on a wooden deck with a plastic dog house inside. We would let the dog out daily and rule was you had to put him back in the cage when you were done. On the weekends we’d let him stay out over night occasionally if we were staying home. Washing the poop/pee was part of the everyday chores. Inside the cage was a gravity dog food feeder and a water bowl with a float.
Our dog’s food lasted over a week. We would check it every time we went in to make sure it was full and functional. For vacations / trips we were away for over 2 days, we’d ask a neighbor, grandparent or relative just to pass by check on the dog, spray the poop/pee with a hose out. Feeder was always filled before the trip.
Exceptions: fridgid temps we’d let him sleep in the storage shed with a heat lamp and hay bed.

Do not get a dog. You, the kids, and the dog will be miserable.

With an outside cat you get her/him neutered and leave it food outside and almost no worries. They keep rodents away too.
Someone dropped a female cat off at my camp. After 2 litters of kittens I got her fixed. Have a gravity cat food feeder for her and pretty much zeros responsibility on our part. Have a fella that refills her food if we gone longer than a week.
If you go the dog route I’d get a shelter/pound dog that’s not a puppy. Puppies are the devil!!!! haha

Don’t get a dog.

Sounds like you’re going to be a terrible owner and not put in the effort of raising and accommodating it. So don’t get it.

Honestly, if you really feel this way about a dog and know you will never change I would suggest just not getting a dog.
If you do get a dog I would highly recommend doing research and buying breed that doesn’t mind living outside and does not need constant attention. Don’t go buy a miniature doodle and leave it outside

Are dogs just as much pussies as people are now? Or are dog people just pussies now? You telling me a dog can’t live outside?
Back when I was a kid, everyone had outside only dogs.
I’d love to have an outside dog, I’m asking how to mitigate my concerns.

Well there are definitely breeds that aren’t outside dogs but just don’t get one.
The electric/invisible fence can be good. They are easy to use. Just place it and train the dog not to go outside of the beeping area.

You seem to be trying extremely hard. What sort of affirmation are you looking for? Don't ask for advice when you're already set in stone. You would be an awful dog owner. Just don't do it if it's this bothersome to you.
Weird thread. Weird guy.

Yep.
Coming across as a try hard..
I didn't want another dog after my last one was a spaz and my parents was an a-hole for years. Damn sure didn't want another male.
The kids and wife found a multipoo during covid and we homeschool and they begged for something to tend to. Especially during COVID lockdowns. I told them I wasn't caring for it as I wanst dealing with another dog.
Fast forward. We crate trained her. She's absolutely the best dog I've ever owned and has brought so much joy it's incalculable. She's sitting in my lap now. She smart as shite and has picked up our habits. She sleeps in her crate at night (she goes there voluntarily).
Well pick up our rosaries at night and she'll hop off the couch and trots over to her kennel and opens the door and goes in. We hung a bell by the back door She rings to go out. We all put our shoes on to leave and she heads for her kennel.
In short get a multipoo. No smell. No shedding. No allergies. Smart as shite. Kids will love her.
Quit trying to be such a hard arse.
We take her on all our vacations. They are a blast and she takes up no room and eats very little.
Does not bark. Ever. She didn't bark for so long when we got her I didn't know if she could.
