it was a play calling problem this year not a qb problem.
yeah, thats what it was, crowton got dumb overnight.

thats not true when we got behind in games he changed the play calling and everything changed. the auby game , the troy game the ark game just to name a few. the qb went from 3 and out total meltdown to scoring everytime we got the ball. these three games 2 were with lee and 1 with jefferson. the gt game was played from start to finish like we were behind .we were very aggressive and gt didn't know what was coming up next.

so let me get this straight, between gary crowton and his 20 years of offensive records, and jarret lee and his two-hop screen passes, you people are putting the blame on crowton?
Posted on 1/11/09 at 9:48 pm to MastrShake
that play you are talking about was called from the coaches. i saw the same play last year against auby with a few seconds left on the clock .we could have kicked a field goal and still won. we were lucky and with a senior qb we won anyway but i remember the announcers questioning the call. so lee didn't call this play the coaches took a chance again and it didn't work this time.don't blame the freshman qb.

I expect Lee will win the starting job with J.J. as the main backup. Shepard will play out of the pistol and will amaze the fans.

like i said earlier i hope depending on who they are playing they start one of the qb's who they think will fit in the play scheme. the first may be jj the second may be lee and so on both are quite capable of starting and the opposing teams won't know who to practice for.

Other than 2006, the backup QB at LSU has had to step in for a game or two in recent yrs.

hatch blows
he's not an SEC caliber QB

Hatch blows but i would still rather see him as the 2nd String QB over Lee at this point and from what we've seen. Sure Hatch has no arm and defenses can stack the line against him but at least he doesn't turn the ball over and his throw s are in the general direction of people wearing LSU jerseys. Hopefully it won;'t come to that and Shep or Garettt will be ready to go as backups.

Does that one drop equal those four picks?
Yes, Lee made a lot of mistakes in that game, any one of which could easily have made the difference in a game that went into OT. But a lot of other Tigers made mistakes, too, and avoiding any one of those mistakes would probably have won the game for us, too.
And blaming him alone for a Georgia game where our defense had their asses handed to them in every part of the game (to the tune of 5 TD drives and a FG drive, all over 60 yards), that's just laughable.

Wouldn't an interception not returned for a touchdown also have won the game?

Apparently unknown to most ranters, there are more than one factor in winning (or losing) a football game. And -- especially in a close game -- many, MANY different things can each, individually, be the difference in the game.
If:
1) Lee doesn't throw the pick 6, OR
2) Mitchell doesn't drop the TD pass, OR
3) D. Byrd hauls in that early pass instead of allowing the pick, OR
4...) etc. etc. etc.;
we win the game. Any one of those things could have made the difference, and by doing outweigh all the other mistakes/missed opportunities.
Think of the '05 Arizona State game. Those two blocked kicks could easily be said to have outweighed the shredded defense for most of the game; but so, too, could that TD throw by JaMarcus, and that circus catch by Doucet, and the defensive stop that followed.
Had any one of those been screwed up, then the blocked kicks would not have outweighed anything.
So Lee's pick-6 was a big difference in that Bama game, and enough to mean the difference between victory and defeat in a close game like that. But so was the drop, and many other mistakes that were not Lee's. So to suggest that he and he alone lost that game is just narrowminded.
And I'm not saying you said that; just explaining why it shouldn't be said.

AMEN bro - Hatch is the answer to the backup QB situation.
Lee needs more football savvy, not just improvement in QB skills. When I saw him pull up and make an impossible toss for an incompletion instead of just putting his head down and running the four yards necessary for a first down to keep an important drive alive, I completely lost any hope at all for him as a winning QB.
I don't even think you can coach that mentality into a player. You either have that instinct or you don't.

So if you are Lee why would you leave? Being a backup and getting to spend your saturdays in TS > being a backup / starting at most D1 universities. Transferring out of LSU for anything other than an education is a stupid idea.

If RS lives up to the hype ... ?
Uh, with him it's not about hype, but rather his eye-popping athletic ability, plus the staggering stats -- running for 300 and passing for 200 in playoff games. I do believe he ran for close to a thousand yards in his three playoffs at the highest classification level in Texas. Hype doesn't explain that.
Have I seen him throw? Yes, plenty of times. His arm is good. He can sling it. Sitting in the pocket and reading a defense is not what he can do yet. It's been too easy for him to just take off and run for a touchdown.
I'd like to see JJ continue his progress, and for Shepard to get his hands on the football more then a few times next season, whether he throws it or not.

Too many of you are just assuming Lee will have the same year as last. He has more experience and hopefully a clean slate (new season) will refresh him. He has a ton of upside. I think JJ gets his advantage by being the dual threat.
