Has anyone on here gotten a bird mounted with Shane Smith out of Northern Alabama?

https://waterfowltaxidermy.com/

A buddy of mine shot a Hybrid two years ago at our place and did his homework on top tier waterfowl taxidermists. Selected Shane based on multiple good reviews and competition reputation. Paid in full. Two years later, he can't get ahold of him. Phone, text, email... nothing.

Hoping someone can share their experience or if there's a better way to get ahold of this guy besides the contact info on his site. That bird is irreplaceable.

I live up here in NE AL. Shane is an absolute stud of a taxidermist. I’ve seen lots of his work over the years. I’ve never heard anything bad about him like what you describe, so hopefully it’s just an unusual and temporary situation.

As far as I know he has a good reputation, but have never used him. I have used Blake Wilson in Union Grove and he does an excellent job! He won’t go wrong with Blake if he can get the bird back in his hands.

I have several birds mounted by Shane and he does outstanding work. He can be a little slow at times though. Never had a problem with him not returning calls though. That sounds a little sketchy. Shane kind of falls into that category of people that are so good at what they do that they don’t really care about customer service. His stuff is showcased in Ducks Unlimited headquarters in Memphis.

I would be knocking on his damn door. Asking for bird or mount. Buddy have receipt from when dropped off? If so enlist G& F snd USFWS with a call. His business may warrant inspection.

Lol yea I scoured his social's and website to see if that's what he was doing. That bird is very similar but it was posted to his Instagram before my buddy killed his.

Update: Buddy received email from Shane last night apologizing saying that all is good, he's out of town and to give him a call Monday. Hopefully this get's some traction.

I've never used him, but a ton of friends/family members have and I have been with them when they drop off/pick up birds from Shane's shop. He does amazing work. Good to hear that your buddy heard back from him. Hopefully the finished product will be worth the headache. Keep us posted.

There is no excuse for poor communication with clients but I can absolutely see how he would be 2 years behind. There are taxidermist in my town who do deer that are a year out and they are probably dealing with people in about a 50 mile radius. Shane deals with clients all over the world. If you google best waterfowl taxidermist in the world his name is one of the names that pops up.
